Use StartIsBack, this will bring back the old start menu and give her the ability to turn off certain Metro like features, such as Start Screen display and Charms bars.

You can also boot straight to desktop with StartIsBack

The only issue, she'll have to pay $3.00 to utilize this tool.

But, it is worth it, because it will give her the behavior of Windows 7.

Agree with TyRidian - I am using StartIsBack with 8.1 - very good.

You can just about do the same thing in ClassicShell as with StartIsBack, and it's free. How Administrative Tools displays and functions was the only big difference I found between the two. I have keys for both Start8 and StartIsBack.

BTW, I don't see how Tihiy (StartIsBack's creator) crams so much functionality into such a small package...slightly over one megabyte.

    Later...

    Hi Trespasser,

Thank you for the additional info!
I know there were several (a bit heated) threads in the past.

Is there somewhere a comparison of all the available programs (with pro's and contra's)?

PS: I do not want to start a new (too heated) discussion again.

If I ran Windows 8 I would also want Stardocks' "ModernMix" which makes it possible to run the metro apps in re-sizable windows instead of the default full-screen.
