    How do I shut off that annoying balloon tip, that always crops up where mouse pointer is, obscuring what I'm trying to read? Is that a WIN feature, or does it originate in an app, like TuneUp Utils., that I also have?

    Whatever it is, whatever the source, I'd really like to kill it; most annoying.

    Thanks, for help/info,

    Are you speaking of items on Web sites ?

    If so, what browser ? IE users would see this if onmouseover is part of the javascript code of the page, along with other ways.

    Do you have an example web page where this occurs, if it's indeed web page related.

    Ah, you've keyed in on a minor but pertinent detail there Bubba; "where mouse pointer is."
    Think I'll go ahead and slide my chip's over to you're side of the table for this one. ;)

    Bubba;

    This may be a Firefox ext. re anti-fraud/anti-phishing, at least in part. Sometimes, if mouse is over a spot, I get balloon hint about "possible trickery" even on this site (as though the destination could really be elsewhere). And that may be fine, depending on one's surfing habits, for the main part.

    I can hover mouse over Quote button on these pages, and I get a popup saying what site this is, sometimes what city a given site is in, an IP# and so on.

    Yet, I can also drop mouse down to QuickLaunch bar, or to the Task Bar and I get popup-balloon, with name of the security app, etc.

    Nothing serious, about this - just annoying (as I'm not sure over time, what app I may've used, to turn this feature on with).

    Thanks for any further ideas, help, on this.

    GlobalForce;

    a) This does not happen, if/when pointing, at DeskTop apps.

    b) If my upload works correctly, here's a list of FF items, that I have as extensions. Also, there's 2 screencaps, of FF bars/addons in case they weren't in other list.

    Thanks again, for ideas, help.

    WSFuser;

    Took a spell to get screencapture in synch (with my foggy brain, after dental surgery today) but, see bottom right for what I'm asking about.

    Thanks, for ideas/help.

    Hi,

    I disabled thusly:

    HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

    ValueName: EnableBalloonTips
    Data Type: Reg_Word (Dword Value)
    Value Data: 0 - disabled, 1 = enabled

    Navigate to the above, using Regedit, change EnableBallonTips value to 0

    Be sure to back up your registry before editing.

    Take Care
    Rico

    The additional text after "Reply With Quote" I believe is caused by the HostIP.info extension you have.

    If you want to disable Tooltips entirely, see this page.

    WSFuser, Rico,

    Roger, that, guys & my thanks for your kind help again.

    I'll noodle along with your thoughts/remedy on this, and vanish the balloon "helper," that tends to obscure the view with its near constant appearances. It had left me "sorely vexed," for some time now.

    Best,

    Rico, WSFuser;

    Went to try regedit as described here, but didn't see that exact item where is should have been. (?) Is this part of the problem, perhaps, or is it phrased differently for some odd reason on this particular PC? Below, is all I see...

    Thanks, for further ideas, if any.

    For the instructions I provided, you have to create a DWORD value and name it "ShowInfoTip".

    Pat,

    Correctly pointed out by our man Fuser, unaffected by previous regedit's or java. Disable, restart FF.

    Before continuing with "anything" registry related Pat, disable the item in my last post. ;)

    OK, folks - got it wrapped up finally, thanks to your kind help; as noted in an earlier post, due to recent dental surgery the "brain fog" I still feel/have, made it harder than usual to read/actually comprehend, things. (Perhaps I should be an inspiration, to the dumbest member of the class). <g>

    So, again, many thanks for all the great help.
