dear teamplus, either switch over to Millenium or XP, or maybe you can try re-installing 98.

    That bone would be humerus.

Maybe the person can't afford a new operating system. It's like telling someone to buy a new car because they have a flat tire.

Do you have an answer to his problem?

dear ronjor, i wasn't forcing teamplus. it was just a suggestion. i also provided him with an alternative. a thousand things can cause this fault, third-party softwares like IOMEGA tools are known to cause this problem, even faulty USB hardware cause this. so its unwise to speculate. i gave him my best answer. i'm trying to help, not into this kidding business.

You may find some solution here http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;188867
I wouldnt run down the road and spend $130 on another win that will expire in 4 or 5 yrs . use your win98 if you are happy . microsoft are supporting it till june 2006. You may have the same issues whether its 98 / xp / or what ever .
There are some good info sites out there on maintaining win98 if you do a search .
If that doesnt help just use your start up disk/CD and reload windows. If you need help in doing that post back .

dear teamplus, if nothing works you can use your HDD as slave and boot up using a friend's HDD and extract your data. keep us posted and tell us more about your system including the third-party softwares you're running.
