Will Samurai play nice with another, more complete HIPS?

  1. Yeah, still perfecting my security setup... Anyway, seeing as Samurai is useful but kind of incomplete in the HIPS department (only prompts for driver installs, not other weird behavior) - will it work alright with another HIPS, such as DSA? Or would it interfere horribly? Just thought it would be a good idea to know.

(Sorry about all these HIPS questions... Back when I was last using Windows, AVs were where it was at, and virtualization was nonexistant.)

When you want very light HIPS for an old XP rig, combine SURUN with TRUST-NO-EXE.

SURUN is your LUA for XP, you run by default in a limited user environment, only with the option to make exceptions for some badly coded software, or just when you want to install something.

Trust-No-Exe is your Software Restriction Policy replacement for XP Home, with the nice option to temporarely disable it. (only allow Windows and Programs directories)

Add Avira Free V9 with heuristics set to high, check on writes only and on all file types

Add Chromium or Iron for a fast light browser with build in sandbox.

When you know what to do, you can use regedit to remove access right to critical registry keys in the current user hive for surunner group.

You will have an effective Policy management, AV and Sandbox setup with minimum CPU load.
