Why was there a time limit?

    When tds-3 was sold, it was sold with the words that we would get tds-4. When
    tds was discarded DiamondCS offerd to trade a tds-3 licence for a process guard/port explorer. For difrent reasons I did not take up on the offer back then, one of em because I did not see that there was a time limit. Why was there one? I am not less scammed just because more time has passed.
