why so many index in my xp?

why so many index in my xp? what is it USN

Hi
i have disabled the index service on my xp sp2 with the last update
and in my c i have disabled to index for a fast search

but when i run chkdsk , it take longer to complete the phase 2 ,that the index phase check

i have
25684 KB in 5005 index

and i have not so many files in my c:

is there something that i could do to reduce the index?

but what is it this usn?
till some days ago chkdsk did not check usn ? is new

well i have 6 partitions , and yesterday in chkdsk i start to see for the first time the voice USN
2 days ago i have not the voice Usn , i checked the xp log

and if i check with chkdsk all my partitions , i found only in 1 partition the voice USN , exactly in D:

if i run chkdsk on (C: E:F :H :I) i did not have a CHKDSK is checking the diary USN...checking of the diary USN finish


why?
