Why Has Windows 8.1 Caused Incompatibility?

    I've noticed many posts focusing on compatibility of security programs with Windows 8.1. However, I'm wondering why there are compatibility issues? Isn't it the same core operating system? What changed from 8 to 8.1 to cause compatibility issues?

    There has been a lot of under-the-hood changes. So many that the kernel version has been bumped to 6.3.
