@cobrafirefly you can start a thread 'Recommended av for gaming rig' in the polls section. You will get as many recommendations as possible:)

Yeah it kind of is. To the OP, this is against the TOS. My personal choice would be what Swex recommended as I am a gamer myself.

Try them all if you can in a vm, or just go for the trials and see which you like better.

    Indeed.
Most trials are between 1-3 months so thats free security for a year.
    Rinse.

    Use the trials again.

make sure that you completely uninstall one before installing another, otherwise you can get some conflicts with remnants left behind,Kaspesrsky installed after Norton springs to mind!

Better: search and use tools, by the vendor, from each vendor.

Best: take an image of your system before installing a new antivirus, if just planning to test for a week or so. Then when you get through trying it and you decide you want to try a different one, install your image before it and do any major windows updates etc. and take another image before the next one that you try.

Like I've said, I'm mostly trying to tailor the choice to the options I have available to me. I do have a ready-to-go system image from after installation, but it's kind of a pain to re-install all of my games after trialing an AV or Security suite. I think I'll retry Webroot 15 day trial and then use my license if it doesn't completely crap the bed...

    Kaspersky 2013 IS

    1. No Betas

    2. Best over time has by a long shot has been Kaspersky

    3. Panda, Webroot and ESET have all had their 15 minutes of fame, but none are great at this time. A look at the many tests posted here show this..

It's gonna sound funny on Wilder's but I don't really need the top notch security that Kaspersky provides. I don't do anything shady on my computer and I just really want some layer of light protection that will give me peace of mind and not any headaches. I used Kaspersky for years (wife still does) and never really had any issues with it besides the browser plugin (no beta or dev google chrome for me) and the shutdown/startup issues.

I haven't used BD for like a month. I am an advanced user and know how to remain protected even without an AV.
