My family has been using Epson for about 20 years (about 8 printers) we did have one bad printer which epson replaced with no problem at all. Photo quality is better than any canons I have seen. Not saying better than any Canons because I have not seen every Canon. Pictures we print look as if they were printed at the lab. I currently have a Photo R340.

    Thanks,

    Chris

I have 2 canons. They are used for photos. I know Epson's are good too. There is a couple of sites that concentrate on camers and photo printers and they in depth evaluations of them. Check it out. Go to Steve's Digicamshttp://www.steves-digicams.com/

I`ve used Canon for years. Very good performance plus the ink cartridges are normally cheaper.

Currently my experience with both makes indicates that Canon are a little better in terms of reliability. The photo quality of both is excellent, and both are similar in performance, but recently I have seen a few Epson printers fail terminally and I also notice that Epson inkjets are far more likely to suffer from jet blockages than Canons. I have also found that Canon ink is more "permanent" than Epson ink in terms of water fastness, which may or may not matter to you.

When it comes down to it, both makes are excellent and after several anecdotal opinions like mine, you'll need to toss a coin to see which one you should buy... ;)

Reading this thread, I'm glad I choosed "Canon". Not that a printer was important for me. I use it hardly, but sometimes it's necessary to print or scan something and color printing was new to me after years printing in black.

I have used HP and Epson printers but my present Canon R300 is to me the best of the three.

For photo quality, I think HP and Canon have pretty decent output results. I never got an Epson photo printer to know their results.

    Hi,

I have had my Epson Stylus Photo 1200 for about 7 or 8 years now and never had any problem with it.

    Take Care,

Not scientific but my preference is canon. Have had good luck with them.

I have both, epson (CX3700, all in one) and Canon Pixma iP3000.
The Canon is far faster in printing, more reliable and cheaper in ink. Personally, I like the printouts of the Canon. For me, the colors are better, the picture is sharper. But thats just my opinion.

Today, I saw photo prints of all printers in a Electronics Supermarket. I think Epson's photos are more glossy and realistic than Canon, but Canon has more features and speed. Hard to choose.o_O

    It's a matter of priorities.
Do you print many photos ? Do you like quality in your photos ? etc.
You have to ask yourself some basic questions and then you will be able to make a good choice.

You can't go by that, no way to ensure that all the printers were calibrated correctly, who did the calibration, if it was even done. Also not all printers perform the same with one type of paper.

There's plenty of professional test on the net where everything is set correctly.

Photo quality, Cannon & Epson are pretty even. For text, ink cost/usage the Cannon usually wins.

Pick the printer that has features you'll use the most, for general everything printing I'd pick the Cannon.

I have had a cheap Epson.Lasted 3 months and crapped out.
Bought a refurbished Canon S300 3 years ago and like it.
    Very dependable.

    Avoid the cheap Epson models!

How cheap do you mean? What's the price ranges? o_O

I have Epson Stylus C45....used it for more than a yr now with no problemo. But planning to buy a more expensive model if money comes my way. I know this is just a modest model, maybe, cheapo...but it just serves its purpose. ;)

Have always been dedicated Epson man, owned around 6 Epson Photo printers, after checking out the latest PIXMA Canon, now a devout Canon man, the photo quality is simply amazing.

Canon - I believe it's a little better in pic quality, features and durability, but it depends on your purpose and daily usage. I started with Canon - moved to HP, then finally Xerox - solid ink seems to work a little better
