    I never used a HIPS, only a properly configured firewall and some common sense rules while surfing on the net. I never felt the need for a HIPS, and it seems that in my case at least, I was right :)

    Online Armor v2, and I still use OA.
    I've also tried D+, Netchina, SSM and EQS

    SSM -- In 2002 I downloaded SSM from the originator's Russian website (no longer online) based on an Outpost forum post HERE. As I recall, the download was fairly small but, even so, took about 2 hours on dial-up because of slow/low bandwidth.

    AFAIK the first mention of SSM at Wilders was made by *himself* (Paul Wilders) in THIS post.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    P.S. Does anyone remember the name of the Russian fellow who originated SSM? I have forgotten it.
    Max Burmistrov was the original developer. I was on dialup when I first downloaded SSM. Max's site was horribly slow. Download speeds from there were often under 1KB.
    SSM was also my first HIPS from back then. And, yes, the down/loading was incredibly slow, even for a dialup connection!
    ProSecurity,
    then SSM,
    and finally EQS
    If there was a single product which combines the best aspects of the above trio, it would most certainly be the ultimate safety provider that could last a lifetime!:)
    Kees,
    You most certainly should seek help (like many other wilders), but good thing is PCs under your guard don't need to:)
    CORRECT!
    Former Wilder's Member herbalist was one if only a very few of Max's first beta-testers and a lot of credit is to his honor for even finding SSM so long ago and sticking with it thoughout the new owner's aquistions. herbalist is always been a human encyclopedia of very interesting information even with Kerio 2.15 since he was a diehard Windows 98 Loyal in the face of constant needling over his refusal to go XP and stay with 98.
    I don't see his membership active here anymore although his posts are still in place. Don't really know what happened to him but hope to see his return again sometime in the future again.
    I DO hope he is OK. Great fellow and very engaging in posts/replies with an open mind.
    Mine was Tiny Personal Firewall 5.1.x and still believe it was ahead of it's time. Spent many hours geeking out with it. ;)
