I´ve just turned on windows 7 firewall outbound protection (that blocks everything by default), and manually created the rules to allow certain applications.
I use Comodo FW. I did use Windows FW for a time (mainly to learn how to use and create rules) but after I was satisfied that I could use it comfortably, I went back to CFW because of the HIPS\BB component.
3 x machines running Win 7 64bit A: Emsisoft Online Armor Premium B: Private Firewall C: Comodo Firewall 6 (heavily modified) I like them all for differing reasons but for tweakability i rate Comodo best.
Windows firewall and behind a router firewall,All thats needed. - OS X Firewall behind the same router Firewall, Again all thats needed.
► "Windows 7 Firewall Control" from Sphinx. - In Win XP and Win 7. Both with Free version. Very good outbound control; 'easy-to-use' also.
I want to use Online Armor, i really do, but OAx64 removes many features over its x86 version and is incompatible with Sandboxed Google Chrome and not as silent as Comodo after Learning System Processes. I have been using Comodo Firewall with Avira for the last 5 years, haven't found any alternatives yet.
Online Armor, never gives me problems, no slow-downs and support is very good. Outpost always has given me problems, and lacks in the support. Might give Tinywall a try again when a new update comes out.
When I voted on this topic I had Comodo but I've found version 6 to be quite buggy and it was making my screen freeze. I've experimented with Windows Firewall but I felt I need something with a clearer interface and so I installed PrivateFirewall and so far I'm finding it decent enough.
