There is no free version. WinRAR is a shareware software, it can be used absolutely free of charge for 40 days, after this period you will be prompted to buy WinRAR every time you manually open it. I don't know if there are more restrictions.

    JustZipIt

I use JustZipIt. It is VERY small, and fast. :thumb:

On the few files that it won't unzip I use 7zip.

Also mentioned is Free Commander, it has features built in. :D

7zip does all I've ever needed. Other than that, modified UPX for PE files.

For standard zip, 7z, and rar archives opened in Windows, I use 7zip. On some bootdisks and service disks, I also use pkzip and a command line version of 7zip.
For everything else, I use the Universal Extractor.

7 zip, it supports all and is the lightest and fastest no frills compressor/decompressor. Its true x64 and for those with multi core and big memory systems, it offers even further optimization to take full advantage of the hardware.

7-zip and Winrar (the second one 'cause 7-zip is not able to pack RAR format) here

Peazip portable is on a flash disk and I mainly use it for (l)paq8 compressions. 7-zip is a standard for all of my PCs. Then on some I have as extra winrar or powerarchiver. Don't forget that in reality powerarchiver is not just a compression software. Offers some cool and nice additional features.

    May be OT,
but did 7-zip stop developing their product?
The final release seems like it stopped at 4.65 (not Beta)

I think it's because lzma algorithm is matured now, the author is working on lzma2.

    Thanks.
I'm not sure what you are talking about,
but I guess it means that author is working on it.

LZMA compression algorithm is the main compression algorithm used by the 7z file format. It was developed by the same guy who writes the 7-Zip file archiver software - Igor Pavlov.

Many other file formats use LZMA compression algorithm to achieve greater compression ratios as well. The zipx file format from the latest versions of the WinZip file archiver software is an example. That's why we can say that the LZMA compression algorithm is matured now.

LZMA2 compression algorithm is the next version of the LZMA compression algorithm. It is being developed by Igor Pavlov as well. The lack of new versions of the 7-Zip file archiver software may be attributed to Igor Pavlov's focus on the development of the new LZMA2 compression algorithm.
