    its 12mb, and lighter by ram usage, doesnt mean lighter on machine performance.

    I know that... but at least on my machine, I don't see any problems or lacks on its performance... and I am sure that on many others KIS users machines is the same ;)

    im sure it is, but if you use dr.web you will notice the speed difference in your computer and also AVG too, very light on system performance.

    Similar results here. Computer has been running for many hours and been doing a whole heap of stuff.

    nod32krn.exe 22,080k
    nod32kui.exe 2,256k

    Total - 24,336k

    My PC is basically on 24/7.

    nod32krn.exe = 20,016K
    nod32kui.exe = 1,240

    This is on 4 gigs of ram. However I did not build this machine to cater to resource intensive security applications. It was built so I could do what ever I wanted and as much as I wanted at one time without slowing it down. For that reason lite but effective security apps. are a must in my case.

    I am sure the resource usage will vary depending on your settings as well. The default settings would be close to the lightest. Then go up or down from there. I used slightly modified Blackspears settings. All modules are enabled but do not have Potentially Dangerous Applications checked sense I run on a LAN and to my understanding this may interfere with some functions.

    erm, LAN connectons and P.D.A's should not interfere, who told you this?

    if this is what nod does, forget that....being on a lan connection myself, no av should interfere with that, if it does... it needs fixing.

    Post #30 on this page https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=37509&page=2 Perhaps it is my misunderstanding.

    i would tick the option thunder,

    WARNING: enabling this option might result in deletion of Remote Adminstrative Programs such as those used by Network Administrators.

    not quite sure what that means but it shouldnt mess up your lan connection, thats for sure.

    Gave it a try, time will tell. Strange, nod32kui.exe usage dropped to 444K from 1,240.

    58,512K total here on my F-Secure IS 2007. But I hardly notice a lag running it.

    Most popular AV's seem to use a relatively small amount of memory compared to the average amount now installed on most modern PC's so most of them should not cause many,if any problems,due to memory "hogging"
    On an older machine ,where 128mb was considered"a lot",memory usage could cause problems,but how many machines are sold with less tham 512mb installed nowadays?most have at least 1gb.I think more problems could be caused by load some seem to put on the cpu

    The amount of memory an AV is using should not be a concern these days (unless it's above 100).
    What you need to focus on is how CPU hungry it is. If it uses too much it will make your PC slow no matter what you do - documents, surfing, playing games etc.

    I think he wants to know how much memory the latest Home version uses. At least thats how I interpret the question.

    I don't believe this is true. Just because we may have the resources or the hardware doesn't mean we should be forced to use them. It's mentalities like this that keep Microsoft in business and why the general public is okay with the resource requirements for Vista. I prefer small and powerful over large and powerful.

    this is life on the net im afraid,

    even if you had 4gb DDR2 ram, windows would still take up 2gb (or more)or of it to make everything run better & faster.

    i now take up 1.1gb or ram, using the same programs as on my old laptop which used to use just 600mb ram.

    ------------
    as for norton home version, i know the IS uses 35mb-ish.
