OK, I know we already have a poll, but I just wanted to know which HIPS would make it into your top 3, HIPS to choose from:

So make a top 3, of course you can also mention another HIPS which is not on the list. Also, no discussions please. :)

Just make it a poll. You can set it up for multiple responses.

One's favourite doesn't mean that one uses it though.

No, you have to make a top 3, a poll won´t help. :)

Yes correct, you might be impressed by a certain HIPS, but you can´t use it for some reason. I just want to know which 3 HIPS are the best according to you all. So Ilya, you will have to name 2 others:

    1 DefenseWall
    2 ?
    3 ?

The problem is that you say "no discussion" it is 99% certain it will be moved to the poll forum. That's why I'm doing discussion to keep it alive. I find such lists and polls stupid anyway. All you get is lists and lists of stuff, what do you really learn? That because this forum has a lot of fanboys supporting SSM and PS and OA, they have a lot of backers? Because people like freeware so Neoava Guard and so on has backers as well?

No disccussion just makes it even worse.

Not what i meant. Never mind.

Bellgamin,I see that you have SSM and ProSecurity. Is there any conflict? Is there any advantage to using both? I know they are both great programs, but my impression is they are pretty much the same.

A listing of my favorites does not necessarily mean that I am running all of them. Actually, I do run OA & SSM & PS -- but each on its own HD image, NOT simultaneously.

With respect to HIPS my 3 images are: (1) SSM + Dynamic Security Agent (DSA) || (2) PS + DSA || (3) OA

DSA is a HIPS + firewall. I combine it with SSM & PS, but not OA (OA has an integral fw). DSA nicely fits in with SSM & PS respectively.

Running SSM & PS simultaneously would be a waste because they have similar coverage -- with the major exception being that PS includes file protection whereas SSM does not, as yet. By accident I had both PS & SSM running together for a while. Nothing crashed, but it probably would have done so eventually.

Havent tried many HIPS programs so I'm not very qualified to give a top 3. I tried out Prevx and liked it, just didn't really need it. Right now I'm getting used to SSM. It wasnt getting along with my old setup (KAV) so I didnt give it much of a chance, but now its working fine and I think I like it. Seems lighter on resources, doesnt phone home, and seems more comprehensive than Prevx. Along with Windows Firewall (for inbound), makes for a very nice & light setup.

When this trial is over I'll try something else. I'm looking forward to Comodo 3.

I know you didn't want discussion, sorry... I'm sure you'll get over it

If you value an opinion of somebody who is new to HIPS then here it goes.

    1. Online Armor 2 (been running it around 60 days)
    2. Prevx 2 (been running it for 29 days)
    3. Your list mentioned SBIE which I like and use, but I don't think it is a HIPS, otherwise I aspire to run SSM :).

I only keep programs that are stable and so far OA2 has proven itself. Prevx2 is an experiment and it has worked ok for me. I'm still not sure if I like the fact that it needs the internet to function. Both programs are easy to use.

Is this the Online Armor that is being referred to? Online Armor Personal Firewall v2
If it is a firewall then should not a resident firewall, such as LnS, be removed?
How does the free version perform as far as HIPS is concerned? Is it compatible with KAV?

    Thanks,
    Jerry

    1. SSM
    2. EQSecure
    3. Sandboxie

Now that the new version of 3.4 is here, I'd suggest people give it a whirl. It provides monitoring that competes with the best programs out there, and it's entirely free.

I didn't like any of the others so I don't have a second or third choice.
