I prefer the Mint-menu (MATE-menu), Cinnamon would be my 2nd best but I don't like Cinnamon as much. I don't like the way it appears so tall compared to MATE.

I've grown accustomed to KDE's Kicker. Does the job for me.

Im sure there is some crazy scripts/terminal commands that would do that lol. But yeah I didn't see any easy options. Also MATE gives me a little bit of Windows XP nostalgia. The "Places" and "System" lists and the "Applications" on the right hand side make me feel right at home.

I use both the Kickoff and Classic menus in Linux Mint 13KDE . Since upgrading Virtualbox to V4.3.0 I've discovered that I can run all my distros (well, almost) with 3D acceleration enabled – this means that I can now run Cinnamon OK and have switched to it in Linux Mint 15.
Still can't run Fedora 19 with Gnome3 (runs OK with 3D acceleration disabled) so I've gone with Cinnamon and Fedora now runs just fine.
