F-Prot for DOS. It also had heuristics, Maximus's grandfather:D .

My PC came with McAfee, years outdated by the time I got it. Bought NIS. Removed it with 6 months of the subscription unused. Used many others, stayed with AntiVir for a long time. Dropped it at version 7.

Still have a couple of AV scanners on board, F-Prot for DOS and AVZ, but stopped using a resident AV almost 2 years ago.

My first pc had McAfee pre-installed (2001).
I used Panda Titanium, switched to AVG after that.

My first AV was NAV. Dumped it after being almost consecutively infected three times by Sobig variants.
Switched to KAV and began with version 4.5.
Currently running KAV 7.0.0.125 on home computer and NOD32 on laptop, as my laptop and KAV do not go along.
    Best regards
    Rui

NAV as that was what Micron put on it. I used it at least three years, without any problems. I am not sure why I got rid of it.

    Hi!
My first AV scanner was thunderbyte. Who Does it remember ? I think Norman bought it. But I'm not sure. It was very efficient and light. My second was Mcafee (very good) and the third for many years were NAV (heavy but effective).

Mcafee, don't remember which version. It came pre installed on my old HP. After testing many antivirus products. I only run kaspersky now. Been running kav for a little over 2 years. Just renewed my subscription for year 3 .

Norton, 2000 I think. Came with the computer (a hand-me-down) and also with a standalone firewall that was excellent; configurable, easy to set up, and could block user specified data like passwords.
Anyway, support ran out, used Avira (or AntiVir as it was then) for a year, switched to AVG (on a whim, really), got infected, switched to Avast, never looked for anything better; haven't needed to.

Peter "Norton" anti-virus / three floppies as Big C said. It was a good product until Symantec got it hands on it.

The computer store where I bought my first computer only sold McAfee.

My next system was a Dell that came with Norton.

Then I tried Kaspersky and found 4 resident viruses that Norton had allowed to stay in my system. The problem was the startup scan took way too long (especially on my wife's laptop. 5 to 10 minutes just to start up) and it locked up during some scans.

Then I tried Avast on my 64 bit system. It didn't work plus I hated the interface.

Then I tried Nod32 because it was the only other A/v that was x64 compliant. I will soon buy my third subscription of it. It has never given me a reason to change.:)

1996... Chipaway by Trend, cost me 50 cents for a floppy in the junk box at a computer shop. this chipaway was designed to be installed and mainly looked for boot sector viruses.

This floppy was bootable and i could scan from the floppy.
    I still have the floppy.

I have tested just about every antivirus since 1996.

Come a long way since them days eh!
