You'll have to be a little more specific, I'm afraid...:D

I really hope this isn't going to turn into one of "those threads" What exactly have you been reading, outside of the regular tests that are posted here? What, exactly, is "not great"? Performance issues, detection/cleaning, what? You're a rather difficult person to please, if your on/off affairs with programs are taken into consideration :D

Avast has a sandbox and SafeZone, which is close to a program I loved called SafeSpace. Avast really has all the new items one could want in a solid suite. But it seems it has become dormant. In tests it has fallen, some, and I really just wonder what they have planned. I read about issues with some of these new modules, be it true or not, but it just seems right now it is just waiting for something new.

I really dont mean to start a useless thread, but honestly feel this product is a product that doesnt no matter wheither to bust over the top or stay in the middle. They obviously have the ability to look outside the box.

Well, being around here as long as you have, and watching all these tests, you should know that every product goes through slumps. Malware keeps changing, and products have to change with them. Some are slower at that then others. I don't really consider them "dormant", most of their new stuff has been put in in the last few months. I don't expect them to add a new feature every month, or even every release. For one thing, it leads to bloat, for another, it leads to higher pricing. Someone has to pay for these bells and whistles, and you can bet it will be customers, that's just business. Personally I hate the sandbox, as it just gets in the way and doesn't shut up sometimes. But, that's my own personal thing.

Perhaps they could trim down on settings or even modules. One particular thing is that if you shut off an unneeded module like mail, Avast goes into "warning mode". Picky, sure, but I don't like the icon having an exclamation point over it like something is wrong, all because I shut off the silly mail scanner. It reminds me of that stupid flag Windows shoves down in your taskbar, unless every last thing it wants turned on is on.

What have you read that isn't great? I checked AV-Comparative's results for the last 5 years and Avast! has done nothing but improved. It seems well in every respect, and they have one of the most comprehensive free antiviruses available. o_O

How about making a product I can actually install?
A little more robust installation process for those with previous AVs installed would be nice.

Who says they're in the middle? I've been using Avast! for a few years now, and received flawless performance.

Sorry you are having that problem. I have no issues to report with Avast. Can't say the same with another product.

So, what do you mean by it then? Trouble installing along other AV software? That's expected. Is it complaining about another being installed even if you uninstalled a previous one? If so, you might want to check for components that stayed behind. It can happen.

Otherwise, I'm not sure what could be going wrong.

I guess he means that avast is very picky if you have some registry leftovers from previous av's (the average user has no idea how to resolve this things). avast performs heratic in such situations, giving various problems.
