17 inch. Big enough to use and still much more portable than a desktop.

I like my 14.1 laptop it feels like the regular screen size of 15.6. its big enough to do everything you need to do and not so small you need to squint during games or movies.

I've been using my 10.1 acer netbook for the past 2 years as my only PC, it works for me. I tried the 15.6 laptop but it was a monster. I can fit my netbook in my backpack and take it everywhere and the battery lasts anywhere from 6 to 9 hours. Yes it is underpower but its perfect for internet and even watching the occasional movie.

My laptop battery lasts from 4-6 hours but that's when it's on the lowest brightness settings and not doing intensive stuff all the time. (Just surfing and using MS Office) :D
But it is kinda slow so theres a trade off. :p

14" i like the best though i have 13, 14, 15 and 18" systems. i find the one i use most often is the 14" my 18" sits on my desk and almost never gets touched unless im in a gaming mood its ridiculous and im not sure why i ever bought it except for its dual gpu's and raid 0 etc its just to big with next to no battery life im lucky to get maybe 1.5 hours. my 15 is okay and i use that a good amount at home since there its not to big but big enough i can use it for movies or tv at night etc. the 14 is my daily notebook i take with me, it gets great battery life and it just big enough not to have to constantly scroll to see parts of web pages etc. my 13 is okay a bit older and is used mostly by my daughter since she uses it for sites like disney and nick etc it does a great job for those.

i also have a 10 and 12" "netbook" but honestly i dont really consider those laptops. i consider them to be what they are a small "useable" computer. if i had not been given them both by vendors of mine i would not have them. i only take them with me if im going on a business trip and i need something simply to access my email or place orders etc imo they are not worth much more than that to slow for any real world use (but i find most notepads are the same way including my ipad and my android pad they are just for email and checking forums etc. i find them to slow for anything else maybe im just impatient lol)

As I don't use Desktops anymore and only Laptops now I'm using a Dell XPS 17.3 full HD screen with a 1st Gen Intel i7 CPU as my main system plenty powerful and great performance.

I travel (a lot) and find the 10" netbook so convenient.
I plug it in to a 19" monitor where I work out of town, so the screen size isn't an issue.
I typically simultaneously run AutoCAD, spreadsheet, browser, email client, and often a couple other proggies and do not notice any significant slowdown. Must admit I'm impressed how well this stupid little minimalist Intel Atom 1.66GHz performs.

The battery life varies greatly between different models, and also, in the last few years battery life has improved a lot for newer laptops. You should check the stated battery life before buying.

Battery life also depends on what you do on your laptop. If you do lots of intensive tasks the battery will not last as long as it could be. :D

Also screen brightness,Bluetooth wireless etc may shorten the hours of operation.

What OS are you using? I'm running Windows 7 on my MSI Wind U100 Plus, which I use mostly for web browsing, and I do find it to be slow. Not so much that's it unusable, but enough to be annoying,

Most all of the netbooks run Windows 7 Starter (hence the relatively long battery life)
