    Turned off MBAM real-time, installed Prevx SOL. Since ClearCloud DNS won't be supported any longer, switched back to Norton DNS.

    Trying OpenDNS for the first time, prompted by ClearCloud's announcement that it is folding up its tent.
    I've always heard good things about OpenDNS. :)

    Installed MBAM PRO, running on-demand only at the moment. Soon I will be uninstalling CounterSpy on my other two machines and running Windows Defender.

    Hi.

    @blasev
    Thank You for the link. And right you are. The setup did slow down my netbook.
    I removed some. I kept the rest as I could not find lighter substitutes. Although avira antivir free can be a candidate for the substitution of avast free but I don't know.

    Well........ now my setup is:

    Avast antivirus
    Comodo fw/d+
    Malwarebytes antimalware( trial period realtime)
    Firefox-adblock plus, betterprivacy and bitdefender quickscan
    Panda usb vaccine

    All are free!

    Acer Aspire One netbook.
    Win xp sp3 32bit
    1GB RAM
    1.66GHz
    160GB HDD

    Thanks.

    Matthijs,
    How is MSE these days? I haven't tried it since it was back at 1.0.

    RAM usage is around 60MB for all three processes, which used to be way higher. However the full scan times are still very slow. In general it doesn't feel as heavy on CPU as it did let's say a half year ago.
    I realise the other major free antivirus are probably all better, but I just like its simplicity.

    Microsoft could make two improvements which I would really appreciate:
    1. release two signature database updates a day, and improve the update mechanism that it would actually update automatically twice;
    2. improve scanning times.

    They update their database three times a day.

    Then they should modify the update mechanism in such a way that users also download three updates a day, without having to do the registry trick. Mine updates once a day, and sometimes it doesn't even update at all.
