Recently upgraded Windows 7 from Premium to Ultimate.
Took me a little while to realize that doing so turned on Windows Defender. Got that disabled straightaway.
ESET NOD32 is running well... glad I dropped VIPRE.
Getting ready to add TrueCrypt. Some people say there isn't much of a learning curve there, but the User Guide is 150 pages long.
Sticking mainly with the main... Sandboxie and some other stuff. :thumb:

    Ditched my ZyXEL USG60.
Added ASUS RT-AC87R the worlds fastest router. It has Trend Deep Security integrated. Remarkably good router.

Considering dropping ESET due to youtube/streaming issues, and adding Norton 2015 depending on what deal I can find. Trend+Norton would be pretty fantastic I think.

Yes, at this moment it is for me the best (available in Dutch) free AV out there.
    But next week... who knows.

Technically, Forticlient is the best free solution. If you want to factor usability, detection, and web filtering.

I have tested it in the vm and it did well at prevention but detection could be better

Youtube implemented something called 'Dash', and dash appears to have some sort of conflict with Eset. But generally any system/device in the home with ESET HTTP/HTTPS enabled seems to fail at properly streaming 1080P youtube content in a smooth manner. It either won't load the entire video, it will pause, or it won't successfully trigger the next DASH trigger point. But disabling ESET's HTTP/HTTPS scanning fixes it. I need to investigate it more to determine why, and perhaps enter exclusions for youtube with the http/https enabled. I will try to dig deeper this weekend.

Dash can be disabled with YouTube Center, but I'm not sure how comprehensive that is.

Hi Page, out of curiosity did you drop Vipre because of poor test results or your system got infected?

    I couldn't reproduce it either.

EDIT: I don't use https scanning (only http), so there might be a problem if https is also being scanned.

I believe Page42's Vipre license expired and he had bought a cheap ESET license earlier on Newegg? so he started using that one. :)

Dash is their form of QOS for the most part, Youtube Center isn't an effective workaround. But I changed some network settings that seem to cause youtube to drop Dash enforcement. But the issue may be HTTPS with Eset. I will disable HTTPS scanning and then try, because I do enforce SSL on my home network.

Let's see, where do I begin?
Oh yeah, that's the reason! :D SweX pretty much nailed it.

Because of Sandboxie, as you well know Osaban, there is not a great emphasis placed on AV selection and use. That fact gives me a lot of freedom and relief when choosing which AV or even if I should not use an AV. VIPRE's support I often found to be less than adequate, and their subscription prices are pretty high. I couldn't find a deal for VIPRE. Plus after these 3-4 years (I've lost count of the actual time period) that I've used VIPRE, I got tired of its interface and began looking forward to something new like ESET. Also, ESET has a HIPS, so I am able to restrict Comodo to FW duties only... and may one day soon do away with that too.

Hope I didn't over-answer. It wouldn't be the first time I've done that!

PS - Osaban, I enjoyed your sig about empathy going viral. :thumb:

Ditto on what hqsec said. I only use http scanning, not https.

Odd.. This is in 2 spots..

Under web filtering the HTTPS open is on, but gray.. Under protocol filtering it was off by default.. If I turn THAT on I then I can go back to turn off HTTPS. Which is it? This kind of thing really makes me wish ESET would design a decent interface.

That I can change, but look under Web Access Protection, then HTTPS. That is greyed out.

Good as that is the one you want to disable :) The other one under web access protection is greyed out for me too.
