Thanks for the quick responses. Just loaded it up on a third hard drive on the third pc. Please note that I do not have any antivirus or malware programs installed. The problem seems to be that the service for AppGuard starts and then stops.

Again, Terminal Services is running. No errors in event viewer. Just information events stating that the AppGuard service has started and stopped. Looks like in about 2 scans.

Not running any local firewalls either. Have IPCop running on a Fit PC to protect the subnet.

Rebooting the pc does nothing to solve this problem.

One thing to note is that the AppGuard service should show a dependency on Terminal Services.

Last night just for fun I setup SandboxIE with AppGuard on a vm. I then allowed execution for the sandbox folder which I moved to the userspace (nice and clean method thx pegr). I then set my IE8 folder to delete contents on close along with reduced rights for the sandbox. I then infected the vm with various rogues, trojans, and viruses including TDSS3 (ten total files executed). I verified they were all running, or attempting to run. I let them run to see if any of the trojans would download some of their friends but I couldn't tell if they did. I think Appguard only kicked in a couple times to thwart malware (I'm glad it did though). Then I closed my browser so the sandbox would empty and then scanned with hitman pro and guess what........there was nothing found! SB did a good job containing stuff and AG spanked the threats I tried to run outside the sandbox. Great combo and the even though SB was the primary defense I was impressed with AppGuard. I think I'll quit using any real-time scanner on my laptop and use exclusively AG or AG/SB. :thumb:

I can't remember what the 2 alerts i got from AG were while I was playing. Anyway, the more I use AG the more I like it.

I did a fresh install of XP SP3 and only installed the drivers. Installed AppGuard. Did not work...only shows status tab. Checked in event viewer and noticed a bunch of "side by side" errors. Installed Visual C++ 2005 and that took care of the errors. So, it looks like AppGuard requires Visual C++ at least with no mention of it in their system requirements. I have it installed on all the other systems that I have tried AppGuard on. Now we have tried to install it on two pc's and four hard drives. Their has to be another service that is required besides terminal services and it is not on by default on a fresh install. What else would be required to get this to work. Very frustrating.

I'm trying out Appguard too. It's nice. Combined with Sandboxie it provides a great system wide protection solution that has very low CPU cycles. Appguard is a bit like a SRP on steroids. This could be a keeper.

    Hi All,

I've been in and out of meetings all day without lunch. What a day!

AppGuard 1.3 and earlier does not explicitly block script launches. One can, for example, guard cmd.exe to in effect guard .bat and .cmd scripts.

We do, however, have enhancements underway for the next release, whereby drive-by download protection will suppress .bat, .cmd., and .com scripts launched from user-space. I expect we'll broaden this to other script types.

    Cheers,

    Eirik

    Tried AG last night.
It wouldn't let me play one of the simple games that were already on my pc.
    So I 'turned AG off'.
    Still couldn't open the game.
    Removed AG.
    Played game.
So what was I probably doing wrong, other than owning a computer.

Would adding wsscript.exe to the guarded applications block scripts sufficiently?
