Clean the fan on your laptop.
Look to connexions inside your laptop.
Boot with some peripheral devices connected ( USB ... ).

Ehm I don` have any screwdriver here and I`m afraid I`ll screw up my laptop.

BTW It looks like the MFT corruption has been fixed through a Boot Sector rebuild but the problem is still there.

    hi emperordarius,

You can try to repair/rebuild your mft with TestDisk.
If this does not work you will have to reformat and reinstall.

Once you eliminated your MFT and file corruption, the only other things to check is your boot.ini file and your drive letters. the drive letters can be changed around in some situations causing a similar problem. You can use a bartpe with the savepart plugin to verify your drive letters. There are 2 drive letters "mounted devices" and "partition ID", if there is a mismatch between these 2 drive letters windows xp will hang/loop at the logon screen.

This is one of those times where a "boot corrector" might come in handy. I've used the latest version (paragon partition manager 9.0 boot cd) of the boot corrector to fix drive letter problems that nothing else can fix, it's a utility I keep in handy when restoring true image xp backups. But I would try and pinpoint the actual problem first and then get the utilitys you actually need. "mounted devices" problem can be fixed with a bartpe regedit, "partition ID" problems require a "boot corrector".

description of boot corrector (this version is a 2005 release, latest versions that work on modern computers are found in paragon drivebackup/partition manager).

Trying to repair the MTF failed, as soon as the question "Do you want to to repair etc. yes/no" appeared, whatever I typed the pc rebooted. Anyway, I rebuilded the Boot Sector and now when I run CHDSK no MTF corruption error appears. Still, the problem persists. This is very strange. o_O

If you can access your folders eliminate the "prefetch" folder in the windows directory. In rare cases if a prefetched file gets corrupted the pc can give problems like this.
Did you performed a full/thorough checkdisk?

    I can`t access any folder.
The CHDSK which I ran was using Avira NTFS4DOS and it had a 3 step check + USN Journal

I just cannot log on, so I can`t see any folder. And the file explorer tools in the bootable disc only explore the contents of the disk:ouch:

why do you need to logon? It is not necessary to view the contents of the folders. o_O

Can you post an image of what you see? I cannot understand if you actually see any folder or not.

Log on is needed only for accessing your private folders.

Is it a Vista or an XP machine?

It is an Xp Machine. I cannot log into the computer at all. I cannot do anything.

The computer boots up, the windows loading screen appears
http://www.microsoft.com/library/media/1033/windowsxp/images/using/setup/support/68224windows-logo-loading.gif, then the xp icon appears and the system gets stuck. Nothing happens from there

ok sorry for the confusion. I meant that you should access your disk from a bootable cd like bartpe, ubcd4win, USB Booting Support .

But UBCD4Win seems to require the windows installations files, which I don`t have..

EDIT: Do you have a folder called i386 in your system drive? Could you upload it somewhere so that I can use the UBCD4Win?

When you got stuck on the welcome screen. You can try this keep the left shift button pressed from the moment you have seen your BIOS screen this will prevent other software to load maybe you will get into windows by doing this.
