    That is what is confusing to me. There is no reason for them to have an image of impropriety given the current undertones in the United States.

    Webroot should make a clear statement that they do not whitelist NSA/CIA, or any state sponsored malware of any type. That way they can be legally bound by that should they fail to honor it. I appreciate companies that take such a stance.. Kaspersky, F-Secure both did already. Not sure if any other AV companies have? I see no reason why a company that didn't do this wouldn't want their customers to know they didn't.

    Some Prism documents seem to reveal McAfee at the very least, whitelists NSA stuff, and possibly may help payload targeted systems.

    and;

    News agency Bloomberg cited four unnamed sources who claim that makers of hardware, software, communications equipment and security tools work with US security agencies not only to protect national interests, but also to attack rivals' computer systems.

    Intel Corp. (INTC)’s McAfee unit, which makes Internet security software, regularly cooperates with the NSA, FBI and the CIA, for example, and is a valuable partner because of its broad view of malicious Internet traffic, including espionage operations by foreign powers, according to one of the four people, who is familiar with the arrangement.

    I'd like to bury this subject.

    Can we get a statement from Webroot that they will absolutely never Whitelist any statesponsored, or govt. Malware of any kind? Avira's statement was so strong - they claimed they would move their company out of Germany if the German govt. ever ordered them to do this.

    I think Webroot needs to officially declare they would not whitelist those threats. If they will not, or do not make that declaration, then we can sort of assume they would. Bit Defender didn't get the letter, but saw the news stories and immediately came forward - stating they will not ignore any Malware, from any source.

    I honestly haven't read this full thread but I saw this post and suggest you post it on the Webroot Community. This forum is a support forum and isn't the place for official statements but perhaps the Community will have more of an official response.

    Official response arrived, after quite a bit more pain/effort than I wanted. But it's good to get this behind us - officially. Now I will go back to deployment of my keys on client machines, and not worry about the matter.

    C'mon, man. You've got to be joking.
    You know what this reminds me of?
    Narcotics dealers asking undercover police if they are police, erroneously believing that because they ASKED, the cop had to answer honestly.
    Seriously, I cannot imagine how, for even the briefest of moments, you would believe such a response.

    Bear in mind, I am not saying Webroot has NSA spooks. That is not my point. I'm just astonished that you would think this is "behind us" due to a denial from a company.
