Prevx does have signature detection, of sorts !

It might not be the traditional type sigs, but it uses something called PX5 which i "think" might be likened to MD5.

PX5's shown in here for eg - https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=271976

Just one example from their www - http://info.prevx.com/aboutprogramtext.asp?PX5=6DC40702004AA01B70760412DFAF790074846143

    Hi,

Obviously I'm not trying to spread out false information or cause some kind of false excitement. The person I spoke to didn't say anything about Prevx 3 (and I don't see why that would need to disappear anyway), but he clearly stated -Prevx will be integrated in existing Webroot software- (paraphrased) when I asked him if there would be a future Prevx standalone product.

I know it's all recent development and so: would it be possible people are still talking about it "behind the scenes", or is it a firm agreement between the two companies Prevx 4 (and maybe 5?) will be standalone products?

I don't know if you are at liberty to say those things of course, but I can always ask :).

PrevxHelp already replied to you :)

I've answered to some questions about the deal in an interview to an italian online magazine and one of the questions was exactly about the future of Prevx products. As replied there, Prevx 4 will be actually released next year as expected.

So one must ask, will Wilders now be a support forum for Webroot?

I just think everyone needs to take a deep breath and go with what PrevxHelp & EraserHW has said it's so early in the Acquisition and more info will be released in due time! So I think they deserve our support for now and for the future and if things do change then we all can ask Questions but as it stands for now Prevx 3 is still here and Prevx 4 is on it's way in the new year! ;)

    Regards,

    TH

Very informative interview! Good to hear that the Prevx team will be named "Prevx Labs, part of Webroot" and not merged into only "Webroot". I really hope you can keep some kind of independence. Again, great interview!

"Stiamo attivamente lavorando con Webroot per pianificare una roadmap da seguire nei prossimi mesi." - Quote from the interview

Would be great for us paying customers to be able to take a look at that roadmap when it's available. Afterall, we need to know what we're paying for when we're renewing our licenses. :)

An obvious way to ease all the furrowed brows here would be a direct statement from the President of Webroot.
It would be nice to have the info from him and it would show some of the Wilders/Prevx family that they are not being completely ignored.

Is there going to be any Webroot code incorporated into Prevx 4, and have the Webroot developers had (or will have) any part to play in the development of Prevx 4 ?

Hi, do you perhaps have the English version of your answers as the web translators are not that good and the original English version might avoid misinterpretation which easily happens with these basic translations.

    Webroot Acquires FedEx

In order to timely deliver on the anticipated record-breaking demand for it's upcoming new Internet Security Suite (Webx), which incorporates a new non-signature based engine proven in independent tests to detect every possible type of malware known and anticipated, Webroot today announced it's acquisition of FedEx.

The future of the Prevx technical development team appears to be perilous...

I hope not!...in my view that would be a dumb move, and besides what could/would the Webroot developers add to the mix?

P.S. From what I can see from reading previous responses in this thead, is that Webroot has been languishing for some years, whilst Prevx is/has been forging ahead.

    The likely unfortunate timeline:

    - Prevx 3.0 is updated to include an option "install Webroot toolbar"

    - Prevx 4.0 is realized. Might be 500kb at first, but all customers must choose an installation option of "install only Prevx," or "upgrade to Webroot Suite with Prevx."

    - Prevx 4.0 in itself is now ordered by corporate to include more Webroot references, and the logo is changed to Prevx from Webroot.

    - Half way through 2011, Prevx 4.0 support will be dropped and it will only be available through either the full Webroot suite, or Webroot AV. Joe and Eraser might still be allowed to exist, and they'll tell us it's OK, and still not to worry. But they'll be talking to, by that point, only the blind, uninformed, ignorant consumers that remained, much like the Norton population.

Rebranding I can ignore, but if the day comes when I have to install Silverlight (!) it will be a dark day

I`m pretty much convinced it`s going to be an insidious decline over a period of time, not wanting to be overly pessimistic of course :D

How much attention to this stuff?
    What will change?
Instead of one mediocre software, you will receive two in package !
