Any important differences between the two for creating a generic WinPE HDM boot disk?

    WAIK contains win7 pe

WADK contains win8/8.1 pe depending which you have downloaded.

You would need wadk if you wanted it to support secure boot, unfortunately.

Any other differences worth noting? Better selection of drivers or anything like that?

usb3 support included, shouldn't need to add drivers.

Isn't/doesn't WADK sort-of replace WAIK? I've never been able to use WADK on my W7 64-bit ever since HDM went the 64-bit on USB 3.0 drivers.

In the same way that Win 8 replaces Win 7.
