w7 and xp , which services did you shut down?

    There are only 4 services on XP that I think absolutely HAVE to be running:

    Event Log
    Plug and Play
    Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
    Windows Management Instrumentation

    Disabling any of those will cripple you. And of course if you want sound, Windows Audio.

    If you want to connect to the internet, then you'll need Network Connections too.
