What part of the United States Code permits what you assert? I just want to make sure that I won't end up in jail because I formatted my hard drive (thereby removing the government's trojans) . Interfering with a criminal investigation is after all a crime.

Given the hysteria in the US, I assume the US government snoops will use any means in their power to spy indiscriminately on as many people as they can.

What I don't know is whether or not 1. it is practical, and 2. what is the best way to do it without alerting the targets that they are being spied on by the government, as opposed to a bunch of criminals.

My scenario is an attempt at answering 2.

Thanks a bunch for a great laugh. I am curious where all this hysteria is. Oh you must be reading our wonderfully accurate media. If you read some of the high power news papers or believe the political rhetoric you'd think this country is coming apart at the seems. Trust me, taint so. I live in Washington DC, and about the only hysteria I see is when some poor home owner paints two bricks, and the blinking neighborhood is up in arms.
