hehehe, what, you guys do not like the changes? ;). I have to admit that I was a little squeamish at first with the new Smart Mode, and how it is not clear to the user that the process is blocked, and then it scans and allows the file ;). Just keep in mind... if a web app is not running, then malware is not going to attack through the web app... since it is not running ;). The thing is, it is just a secure as before since the user is going to click on the file they just downloaded to their desktop or downloads anyway... the only difference is that it is MUCH more user friendly than before since it does not require any user interaction at all. And like I was saying, since the web app is no longer running, it is safe. Besides, I cannot count the number of times that someone has asked me "The shield says OFF, why is VS blocking something". And I could not agree more... the lock is OFF. Besides, there was not much of a difference between Always ON and Smart Mode before, but now there is ;). Let me know what you guys think if you want to!

Anyway, I think most of the things are fixed in this version, I will catch up soon, thank you!

Edit: Also, believe me when I say this... if you saw the changes under the hood... OMG, there is a HUGE difference between 2.7 and 2.5.

BTW, it is not quite ready for XP, but it will be soon.

I will try to new build tomorrow sometime since i'm retiring for the night. I posted my settings since it might be related to the settings I have chosen to use. I'm not sure why you can't reproduce it. I will try a reboot once, and see if the problem is still present.

A reboot did not help. VS still silently blocks everything not on the whitelist. I will try the new build tomorrow.

if you disable left click of the shield and leave pop up warnings active, you can no longer right cilck the shield. This makes the program inaccessible and only way to shut down is by task manager and then uninstall.

    Possible bug:

Execute downloaded file and VS will show a baloon notification.
Click on it and select desired action.
Instead of applying user's decision immediately, baloon notification is shown again and you have to repeat your choice.

BTW, I can reproduce MrGump's bug with tray icon too.
Just disable left click in Settings and the right click will not work any more.

End manually both VS processes in Task Manager.
Double click on VS desktop icon.
Only one process is started (GUI?) and service is not.
After some time, VS shows attached message.
You have to restart PC to make it work again.

Is this a bug or by design?
Can you start the service again by double click on the desktop icon?

    Suggestion:

Replace "Display prompts for" text with "Set prompt counter to".
Users might think that disabling this checkbox will turn off VS prompts.
Instead, it just removes the counter in upper right corner of the prompt.

What I've noticed for me is an improvement in the snapshot function; way more effective at capturing a complete and correct whitelist. Big thumbs up on the 'Advanced Snapshot'. Also like how you've streamlined the threat assessment to auto run clean files whilst keeping the config option for manual intervention for the more cautious user. Like where this is going!

If you get a chance, appreciate it if you could respond to #6919 quarantine. I'd like to confirm expected process and any suggestion on how best to investigate it.

    Thanks, sasaq

    @sasaq et al & @VoodooShield = How do I regain control of 270b.
Please explain VS setting for 'auto run' and setting for 'config option'. Does this have to do with SmartMode v AlwaysOn.
When I regain control over 270b. I'd like to know what's happening....?
Must I show 'gadget'. I'd rather have prompt dialog as required v constant gadget.
@sasaq: Are you running 270b and did you over install 270a.

270b taskbar Icon shows x and is non-responsive other than showing Left Click Disabled on VS taskbar Icon click.

    Update: ran VS uninstaller

VoodooShield is not adding child processes to the whitelist with default settings. I'm using Windows 7X64 Ultimate SP1. It's allowing the application to function as expected, but the child process is not being added to the whitelist.

I just had VS crash upon detection of false positive. There's was 8 detections so I guess VS was trying to auto-quarantine the file. I'm not sure if VS was trying to quarantine the parent, or the child. Dan, I will email you about it when I get back. I have to go pay some bills. I should be back in a couple of hours.

Email sent about the child processes not being listed on the whitelist, and the VS crash.

    Hi bjm,

I too am on a learning curve; happy to share my understanding :cautious::
    Auto run
If VS isn't off, then its capable of blocking a file. What I mean by capable applies to 'SmartMode' e.g. its selective as to when it toggles protection on.
So now that were blocking a file, the configuration setting "automatically scan blocked files" comes into play. It provides the user the ability to specify how they want to handle blocked files e.g. if its off, then the decision is left up to the user, if its on the file is scanned and if it passes, its allowed to do its 'thing'. If detected as a threat, a user is prompted to decide either: block, quarantine or allow as a 'false positive'
    Gadget
If your referring to display of the shield gadget. Right click menu option -> Hide
    270b install
Yep I installed oiver 270a. I chose disable/install mode on 270a before running the install

    @VoodooShield

    Bug

    Latest Beta (2.70b)

Google Chrome process lingers after exiting the browser.

Whitelist cleared (Starting fresh) = Same result
Whitelist cleared and in "Training Mode" = Same result
Uninstalled Google Chrome and started fresh = Same result
Uninstalled VoodooShield, Open and closed Google Chrome = No more issue

    Windows 8.1 Professional (64-bit)

Note: All Google Chrome processes were whitelisted during this test.

    Can you confirm this?

    Hi TyRizian

At the risk of teaching my granny to suck eggs have you checked to make sure that you do not have the "Continue running in background..." feature checked under the Advanced Settings for Chrome?

Chrome processes sometimes hold memory for me after closing Chrome. Running background not checked. Version 42.0.2311.152 m seems improved.
