I still would like to see a different color tray icon, and desktop gadget for Disable Protection Mode. I want to be able to know that i'm in Disable Protection Mode by looking at the desktop gadget, and tray icon. The tray icon, and desktop gadget is red when VS is in Disable Protection Mode now. VS uses the same color for Smart Mode, and Training Mode so looking at the tray icon, and desktop gadget does not really help to determine if VS is in Disable Protection Mode.

    Hi Dan,

I always try to install all apps with Revo Uninstaller Pro (to track all file & registry entries), but VS doesn't want to install with Revo. Nothing happens after the initial install screen! o_O

Fwiw, my OS is Win7 Home Premium SP1 x64

I have noticed an increase in VS CPU usage when I change tabs in settings. I don't think this happened, previously.

EDIT: The increase in CPU usage only shows when selecting "Web Apps" tab.

@Tarnak Is it in a snapshot with WSA? As I got the files Whitelisted for VS Beta 2.40 and I don't see any issue with CPU usage. But I do have 1 issue VS in Smart mode will not deactivate when the Browser and Outlook is closed I tried a reboot and it didn't make a difference Win 7 x64.

TH, I have two snapshots, and only one has VS in combination with WSA. Are you saying you have whitelisted VS in WSA, or vice versa?

Whenever I go to copy/paste my registration info into VS it's just blank so I have to type it in! Is this a bug?

VS 2.40 has been whitelisted in the Webroot Cloud Database as I thought it could be causing my issue above but there was no change even after a clean reinstall of VS 2.40

Use control c to copy the info, then use control v to paste it into the blanks.

Regarding, your issue with VS not deactivating when closing your browser, I have no problem, because mine works OK when I close my Opera browser, which I do hardly ever, as I am online continually. And, now I am about to go out for a few hours....so hackers have at it. LOL

Yea I have it set to SMART as well but it will not turn off unless I click on TRAINING and I assume you are on XP 32bit? I'm on Win 7 x64 so it could be OS specific. Dan will let us know!

I do not have 'Windows Installer' in services set to start automatically.

I prefer to switch it on 'manually' to start, just prior to running an installer.

However, when I go to start that service, I now get the warning:
    ---------------------------
    Services
    ---------------------------
Could not start the Windows Installer service on Local Computer.

    Error 5: Access is denied.

    ---------------------------
    OK
    ---------------------------
I can't but think it has something to with one of the many recent versions of VS that I have installed recently.

P.S. I first got the popup when I went to run the installer for the SUPERAntiSpyware 6.0 Pre-Release, yesterday. Now, I want to run the latest installer just released, and I find that I am having the same problem.

    Hi Dan

Still have the same problems in 2.4.

    This is the procedure.
I have a program that is not located in Program Files or similar.

Run this program (it is an alternative browser install) and VS pops up. Ignore the VS and the browser install stops.

Go to Task Manager and kill VS under Background Processes. Also kill VS in Apps.

Now run the browser install and it is allowed to run - no VS intrusion.

Restart VS and only the Background process starts.

Run the browser install and it is allowed to run.

Reboot and try the browser install again. VS then pops up to Allow etc.

Unless you have not got around to protecting the program it seems VS is vulnerable to any attack.

Hmmm, that is odd, thank you for letting me know. I googled btvstack and it kind of looks like it might have something to do with Skype?? Maybe? Do you have Skype running on your machine? If so, I can just filter out that process. I will play around with it to see if it happens to me too. Also, you can remove some of the webapps on the right, there are probably quite a few that you do not use. If you figure out what is triggering the btvstack, please let me know! What browser are you running? Thank you!

I think I see what you are saying... yeah, right now VS has no self protection. That is, right now the user is allowed to kill VS in the task manager. Once VS is completely stable, I will look into some new self protection methods. We do not want to use the old method we used in 1.30, it was not that great. But I will see what can be done. Thank you!

Hey Cruise, sounds good, thank you for letting me know. I can test this and see if there is anything I can do to fix it, but most likely it is something Revo will have to fix. The reason I say that is because the VS installer really does not do all that much except copy the files and make a couple of registry changes. And we use Inno Setup for our installer, which Revo should not have an issue with since so many developers use it. But I will try it and see what happens. Thank you!

Yeah, when the web apps tab is selected, it polls the computer for live internet connections frequently, but I can dial that back a little. Thank you!
