I was wondering whether kind soul could point me in the right direction.

I am running Win2k with ZoneAlarm 4.5 free firewall behind a linux IPcop box. ZoneAlarm is only used for its outbound protection and I have been happy with this setup until now.

However I am playing around with VNC and ZoneAlarm is blocking incoming connections on port 5500 (which I have forwarded from Ipcop to my computers internal IP). I can’t find a way of allowing traffic from a single port through ZoneAlarm only traffic from a particular IP/Range. Connections will be coming from different IPs as the other end is dialup.

Looks like I need new firewall software preferably free that will allow me to open ports. Low resources and stability are my main priorities.

    Anyone have any recommendations?

ZA free will not allow you to define ports and simply permits/denies all for the specified application. Have you tried allowing "Server" for VNC to permit the inbound traffic?

A free rule based alternative you could consider is Kerio 2.1.5
