I was wondering what the 2 ethernet adapters do and do they need to be enabled at all times when using vmware?

I do not know what they are for but I keep both of them disabled. My internet inside the virtual machine works fine with them disabled. I use the bridge mode inside the virtual machine, maybe the other modes use the two Vmware adapters.

You can safely disable them if you are using the bridge mode inside your VM.

I think you may need one of them if you are using NAT. If you go to the different modes setting inside the VM, and select the custom mode you can see two VM adapters there for Host and NAT.
