Does Windows Media player run on Win 7 starter edition? If not could I use VLC to play videos?

You most certainly can use VLC to play videos since it has its own decoders.

I recall reading, many moons ago it seems, that W7 Starter came with Windows Media Player but an MPEG-2 decoder was *not* included (you either had to upgrade to a different version of W7 or purchase a plug-in that would give you DVD playback capability).

Isn't the 64 bit VLC still a bit of an alpha? I'd much rather use a stable 32 bit than an experimental 64 bit. What significant advantages over the 32 bit does the 64 bit have?
