Good day. First, sorry for my english.

    Problem description:
Client wants to have two OS-es on his notebook (Samsung R-60, HDD 200GB): Vista 32 HP (OEM) and WinXP SP3 (OEM)
    My steps:
    1. install Vista (created partition 60Gb by Vista's installer)
    2. install Acronis Disk Director Suite v 10
    3. Install OS selector, it asks for reboot. I clicked "restart now", Vista restarts, OSS loaded and there is no OS-es to boot, another words, OSS doesn't see Vista.

I tried all functions of OSS, but it did not help.
Disk Director shows partition as active and primary? but OSS does not find any Oses there.

    Question:
What should i do to install XP and Vista to different partitions using Acronis Disk Director and Os Selector?

OSS has a problem detecting non-Microsoft OEM Vista installations.

Do you have a Vista DVD that will let you boot to the Repair Mode? If so, boot it, select the Repair option, start the Command Prompt and run the following command (<ENTER> means to press the ENTER key):
    Code:
    bootrec /fixmbr <ENTER>
That will fix the MBR and allow Vista to boot again.

Next, find and attach the BOOTWIZ.OSS file to a post so I can see it (instructions can be found here).

If you plan on using a non-Microsoft boot manager, it's best to make sure that the partition for the Windows being installed is set Active and that all other Windows partitions are hidden before doing the installation. This will keep Windows from combining its booting files with those in another Windows partition and allow each OS to boot independently.

    Thanks! I've made this:
    1. erased first sectors of HDD
    2. made boot up from Acronis CD, and maked partition (prim, active) 60GB (HDD CAPACITY 200 gb )
    3. Installed Vista
    4. installed Acronis Disk Director
5.created second partition 60 gb (primary, active)
    6.first partition(with vista) made "hidden"
    7.made reboot, installed winXP sp3
    8. installed Acronis disk director under winXP

next: start AcrDD(under winXP), and manually switched active partition(First, with vista active, second with XP - primary, NOT active, NOT hidden). Vista booted normally.

then installed Acronis Os Selector (under vista), made reboot, Os selector shows XP only. When click twice on XP icon, it boots normally.

That is my BOOTWIZ.OSS file, please, fix the problem.

Try this file and see if it works. I assume you know to rename it to BOOTWIZ.OSS and replace the existing file with it.

I've copied Your's bootwiz.oss file, made reboot. OSS shows two icons "Windows XP" and "Vista manual"("vista manual" without icon, only two words). When clicked twice on "vista manual", appeared dialog windows with message: "Acronis OS selector could not load operation system "Vista manual": current type of file system not supported by current operation system"

    with pleasure, Kmensky Sergey.

Please repost the current BOOTWIZ.OSS file and I'll take a look at it.

    :) I've made this:

Copied 4 files from WinXP root directory: boot.ini, bootfont.bin, ntdetect.com and ntldr to Vista root directory. Then i've opened boot.ini by notepad, and edited pair of sybols: partition (2) --> partition (1), "Microsoft Windows xp.. bla.. bla.. bla.." --> "Windows Vista".
Then I've copied the first copy of my bootwiz.oss, mde reboot... and.... and...
!!! Ha-ha!! Vista appeared in Os selector!! Now it works correctly!!!

P.S. IMHO Acronis OS Selector is not correctly works with any copy of Vista, i've made four stands and used different versions of Vista - Acronis OS Selector after install did-not recognized them. (All versions of vista are Microsoft OEM Russian editions)

Are you using the English version of OSS?

What build is it? I should have asked already. If it's not at least build 2,160, it won't recognize Vista correctly even when manually added.

Is that that latest build of the Russian version?

If you log into your Acronis account and check the change log for DD, does build 2,064 say it supports Vista? If there is a later build and your system is working okay with how you have it setup, you may want to just leave it with the older build.

Tricking OSS into finding Vista by copying XP's booting files to the partition was the original method to getting OSS to boot Vista. It works okay with the older builds, but usually doesn't work on the "Vista compatible" build(s).
