    Dear All,

I have a problem. Here is what happend:

    1. I executed some .exe file on my Windows 7 with MSE installed
    2. MSE didn't trigger any warnings about exe file
    3. Just in case I sent file to virustotal.com and virustotal stated:
    MSE - nothing
    NOD32 - infected with Win32/HackTool.Patcher.A

    4. Immediatelly I bough NOD32 anti virus. Uninstalled MSE, installed NOD32.
    5. Scanned the same file locally with NOD32 that I sent previously to virustotal.com
Result = nothing. No viruses found.

Any ideas why virustotal reports the virus with NOD32 and NOD32 itself cannot find it. Any ideas?

Are you using nod32 with just with default settings?
Maybe they have heuristic detection set to higher than you do, or maybe some other custom setting changed.

Also, it may be an fp and has been updated, are you sure its not legit?

One other thing is it may be a "potentially unwanted application" (might be called something else in nod32)...do you have nod32 blocking those?

    Potentially unwanted application..
just go to Nod settings and check detect potentially unwanted applications..
    It would be detected.

    Hello,

What version of ESET NOD32 Antivirus are you using? Are you using the latest version (version 4.2), or v2 as the section your thread is under implies? VirusTotal would use the latest version and signatures. If you're using v2, download and install the latest v4.2.67.10 at ESET's website here after uninstalling v2. Also enable detection of unwanted applications as already suggested.

    Regards,

    Mark
