Virus via spoof windows updates ?

Hoping some kind people can educate me...again.

Will the average AV scan pick out any dodgy virus that enters via Windows updates ? Or can those updates be exempt from a scan ?

I have no idea how likely it is to get infected via these updates so any info much appreciated.

I recently bought a new laptop in SE Asia so i'd like to know as much as i can.

And good paid A/V scanner that's worth it's salt would quickly detect these via web access protection or some other module.

Windows Update are a required risk in running Windows - it's rare that a virus or some other sort of infection is delivered via updates.

 

I don't think it is possible to get a virus via Windows Update.

 

It's not rare, it's completely impossible, the entire process is encrypted.

 

This would be assuming that the service is run on a non-infected machine.
