    Hello,
the updates were stopped about 1,5 hours ago to minimize the impact on our users. Unfortunately, an issue seems to have occurred even if the transition to v4 update files was staggered to several days.

So we have a product that can't be used? Thanks for the update but you aren't really telling us much. You guys update our programs and crash our machines and then we are left with a program that doesn't work. Mine obvisouly isn't scanning email so I assume most of the other functions are uselss as the moment as well.

Is there something we can do on our side to fix this or is it a matter of waiting for you?

The update servers are disabled, they are currently fixing the issue so both v3 and v4 clients can update from the same server. They aren't neglecting you, they are working on fixing the issue!

A manual uninstall and subsequent install of version 4 fixed the problem on my computer (I didn't get the BSOD, just the failure message - see the first post).

    How do you uninstall/install?

Completely remove the application using the Windows control panel. Go to www.eset.com and select "download", "purchased products download". Download version 4 (you have to login first), then install the downloaded file.

I am having the same issue. I uninstalled the app, then downloaded the new version, and still get the message that antivirus protection is disabled.

same here... i got a BSOD, and then nod32 failed to initialize.

i solved this by uninstalling and reinstalling an old setup of nod v3, and copy the em00X_XX.dat from another pc to C:\Program Files\ESET\ESET NOD32 Antivirus.

    vista ultimate x64 sp1 + nod32 v3.0.699

furthermore, it's impossible to download the last setup on esest website...

i'm feeling naked without AV protection....

It's all working fine now, version 4 updated with version 3901 20090302 and no problems so far.

Any updates on this? Mine still won't update or work. I looked at downloading the new version but I see no 64 bit version.

    Edit: Nvm I see it

Before I do, please do the following:
    - uninstall EAV and restart the computer
    - install EAV v4
    - set the system to create complete or kernel memory dumps
    - reproduce BSOD

When you have a dump file ready for submission, let me know.

Please excuse a question from a newbie. I, too, experienced this problem (EAV v3.0.684 Vista64) and have been hoping for help.

Would you savvy types recommend that we inexperienced users try to reinstall v3 or go forward to v4? (There do seem to be some problems with v4 and my capabilities to diagnose and fix those is very limited. But if v3 is in trouble, perhaps v4 is the way to go.)

I appreciate your time and advice. Thanks

    NOD32 Antivirus Business Edition build 4.0.437.0; Definitions v. 4075
Small Business server 2008 (x64); Fresh Install
    ESET Support Ticket #'s 319223 & 319458

    On Protection status screen:
    "Maximum protection is not ensured"
    "Antivirus protection disabled"
"A serious error occured while starting real-time file system protection. The computer is not protected against threats. The program needs to be reinstalled!"

    On Update screen:
    "Virus signature database update failed"
"Virus signature database could not be updated"
    "Undocumented serious error (0x101a)"

    Reinstalled according to procedure.

What I did to "green up" NOD32 last time was to take ownership of the Documents and Settings folder including all child folders and files, and make it all read / writable to the new owner.

What wound up happening is that the OS duplicated everything present in ../Users/<username>/ in the associated Documents and Settings location.

I didn't know what everything's permissions were before I took ownership & thus was unable to restore their original condition without doing a fresh install of the OS, which I just finished & am at square one with the problem once again.
This time I'll be letting everyone in on my progress with tech support.

For the sake of public information, it's already been determined that this & that solution did not bear any progress.

    Pray for me.

I almost forgot to post that this is no longer a problem.
I just reboot & all is well.
