Good Evening! Having just installed Vipre I.S.2014 and so Far very impressed with its performance especially a new driver added, providing much needed stability to the Firewall. I thought I'd provide everyone the opportunity if your interested in being a Beta tester for the 2015 Version. The following was provided by Dan R...a Senior member from the Vipre support forums. Just a general FYI . . . Vipre AV and Vipre IS are in alpha test (during the month of April) over in the beta forums: http://tts.premiumbeta.com/users/sign_in Anyone can sign up to join in or to just watch what is going on. It looks like Vipre 2015 will have a new GUI look (currently available in the AV alpha only). The new GUI logo is shown in the beta forum, and will be in the IS version eventually. Vipre IS is getting new web filter technology for Win 8x compatibility. Since this is the alpha stage, the 2015 features are likely not fully defined yet. Sincerely...Securon
Good Afternoon! Tomdy2k...I'm optimistic that the new owners ThreatTrack...can turn around the fortunes of Vipre. So far I'm pleased with the performance of the Firewall...I have Hips enabled...and Web Filtering...and as I mentioned much more responsive while surfing and no drag on system resources. And as I know and you mentioned the next step is improving Detection and Cleanup of Malware Threats. Here's Hoping! Sincerely...Securon
Hi Securon, I have two questions: 1. Does the beta still have HIPS? 2. Is Bitdefender's engine used? Thanks
Good Evening! Yes the beta version of the firewall still has Hips. And I wasn't aware that Vipre ever utilized the Bitdefender engine. About 3 Yrs ago Inspector Clouseau...Michael St Neitzel...was one of the principal engineer designers of the Vipre Engine. And curiously the good inspector is now last time I heard is in the employ of the G-Data people who as you know use Bitdefender with G-Data. But Vipre is wholly a product of Threat Track...formerly GFI...formerly Sunbelt where Vipre was originally created. Excuse the bold font don't know how that materialized. Sincerely...Securon
OK, thanks for the info. I registered for the alpha but have not yet installed it. When I previously used Vipre, it never caused any slow downs. I hope it is the same now.
Good Evening! Charyb...I believe the Alpha has been replaced by the Beta. If you could be so kind as too provide us with some screenshots of the new Gui it would be appreciated. Sincerely...Securon
Good Afternoon! I'm very impressed with the performance of the new Firewall...new in the respect that the new driver...has made a meaningful difference to it's performance. And has a footnote... has anyone participated in the Vipre Beta? Would be interested in receiving updates on any Performance pros or cons! Sincerely...Securon
Good Afternoon! Thanks for the update ArchiveX...let us know how long a full system scan is with Vipre. On my system it took over two and a half hrs. Wondering if there using Cacheing or Digital Fingerprinting in trying to condense scan times? Sincerely...Securon
Good Morning! ArchiveX...that's one reason I don't use Viper on a consistent basis...3 hrs is totally unacceptable. Sincerely...Securon
Did anyone of you guys performed a second scan to see if any kind of fingerprinting or caching is present?
Good Morning! ArchiveX...you can try Custom Scan...it runs roughly 2 and one half hrs on my system for a complete scan...marginally better...but still unacceptable. There's a box you can click on called Rapid Scan...but it must be a Placebo feature...because it hasn't worked for me. The situation regarding scans has been going on for the last four years...that I can recall...what I might recommend is go to Threat Track's Forum...and contact Mr.Nick Hallam and ask him if anything is being done too rectify the scan feature. If an Anti Virus app is using Cacheing or Digital Fingerprinting a Full Scan should take no longer that 30 to 50 minutes. Sincerely...Securon
testing it today. not to bad. long scan time but overall so far a much better version the the last one from gfi. if they can get detection rates up it will be one to watch for, its just a bit heavy here but running pretty smooth.
Good Evening! zfactor...the detection rates are the meat of the matter to me...I remember pre Vipre days with Sunbelt's Counterspy...it had excellent detection rates...now that was six yrs ago...and the prevalence of malware was a fraction of today's rates and not near as sophisticated. Anyhow to the present...the firewall has shown a marked improvement...now to work on the scans...and improving heuristics. Sincerely...Securon
Has it really been six years since the Counterpsy days? I feel like it was just a few weeks ago it was daily a new antivirus program with the vipre engine was popping up it was the rising star isn detection rates. I think being acquired by GFI and then being spun back off really put a damper on things but looking forward to see if they can pick back up the pieces again
Good Evening! Yeah it's been that long Ibrad...I think everyone was aware once Sunbelt sold Counterspy and Vipre to GFI...any meaningful development of the product was essentially resting on it's past reputation. Hopefully Vipre can be restored to it's once awaited potential. Sincerely...Securon
