    Yes the Linux Live CD is the way to go, and note the "(on your end)"

    Yes of coarse, and thats where we leave "(on your end)" area of security, and enter the Twilight Zone.

    Doesn't matter how safe and secure we make our PC's, we'll always be at the mercy of "another machine in-between", and the security measures it and the instututions we've dealt with have in place.

    Now

    In the virtual world, the Linux Live CD is about as safe as it gets, how safe ? hmmm, we can never be assured...The virtual world of "on-line Banking" has far less danger than the physical world of *get in-line Banking.

    Myself, I worry more about being struck by Lightning, thats one of the few things that hasn't happened to me yet. :D

    A LiveCD is fairly safe. Only hardware keyloggers (unlikely) and snooping/eavesdropping (MITM) are able to defeat it.
    XSS may be a concern too (use Firefox + NoScript + type the URL by hand).
