    Hi,
I'm using CA Etrust v8 on a W2K server, and have the choice of the vet engine or inoculate.

Just how are we supposed to make an informed choice of which one to use? Does anyone here have a preference, or knows of some real world test results that compare the two?

    many thanks
    Rob

I would suggest you to use InoculateIT engine with highest settings.

Thanks - can I ask what you base this on?

IBK runs the av-comparatives testing site

So he knows a little about AV programs, hence an AV Expert.

On the computer associates virus info page you can look at all of the virus defs detected by Vet and Inoculate. Vet is by far the better av engine as it cures about five time what inoculate does. Go here and click on the two engines one at a time and check for yourself. http://www3.ca.com/support/vicdownload/NewlyDetected.aspx after you click on an engine give it a second to load the defs. and you will see which will cure what it detects.

IBK will most likely base his response on detection ratios ;)

Right, HTML/Phishbank.AAM and Rbots can be cured. They just tagged everything with Cure, nothing else. Longer list also doesn't automatically mean better detection.

There is some indication by IBK that the Inoculate engine is the one to go for, at least for zoo malware.

Go to www.av-comparatives.org > Comparatives> Special AV test of other AV products, June,2006.
