Does the FW depend on 'cloud data'
If so it will only block outgoing from 'sus' programs:doubt:

Yes it does so if it's known good by default it will let it though but you can change the settings as posted via the Online Help File Warn if any process connects to the Internet unless Explicitly Allowed and save and I think a reboot is needed: http://www.webrootanywhere.com/sah_Firewall.asp?n=About_the_firewall

Given that Essentials is now Internet Security Plus + the AntiVirus version now sports a firewall = what the likely hood that the AntiVirus version is soon renamed to Internet Security...given that there is an Internet Security Plus (what is the Plus for if there is no basic IS version)...;) :argh: o_O...who knows?

    Two comments:

    1) I am pleased to see that no one seems to be posting any problems with the 2.14 release. :thumb:

    2) I am running the new release on all five of my systems now with no problems as well. :)

    Where did you download it?
There isnt a AV only version so how could a firewall be "imposed" on you.

Color me very very impressed.I didn't think they could find a way to make this any lighter than last year, but they did.Joe and his team did an excellent job at optimizing the code and managing to add a few new excellent features as well. Will continue to recommend WSA to most people i come across in my travels.Bravo on another job well done!:D

Could not be happier with this product. The 5 PC license I bought was money well spent. I especially love the Web Console as it allows me to keep an eye on my step-children's PCs, as well as my wife's.

    Glad you sorted it.
The files listed needed a 'boot time' defrag as they are locked during windows use.

Took all of 5 minutes to have issues.

There really needs to be a warning for those who use the simplified settings that if they go into advanced settings and make any changes, it can alter you simplified ones.

Example. I have it set in the middle of set and forget and hands on. But if I go into advance settings and scan settings and untic the box for show the authenticating files popup and save, then in my simplified settings the set and forget gets moved all the way to the left.

Not saying this is wrong but you need to warn that altering advance settings will effect simplified settings.

In simplified settings what is the difference between Strong behavior and cloud heuristics and Max heuristics. I want both, duh><>> In this setting there should be 3 choices instead of 4. Like all the others. Then I click on the middle setting and realize I am getting a balance of the 2.

And do away with the captcha, it is just stupid. Allow me to secure by password all my settings. I hate frigging captchas.
Other then that it looks good.

The simplified settings just directly change the advanced settings so changing the advanced settings will do the same to the simplified ones. If you deselect/select the same options as you would in the advanced menus, you would end up changing the simple view.

You can disable the captcha or add password protection under the Access Control tab in settings. The captcha does add a noticeable layer of security in the event that some malware is trying to automatically click through the UI, but you can always turn it off.

Let me know if you see anything else!

I wouldn't worry about the firewall. It's a network firewall only and runs at the kernel level as a process-aware/endpoint-aware firewall. It co-exists with any other network firewall just fine, including Look n' Stop.

In default mode, it's a zero-configuration firewall with the explicit purpose of killing the network connection of any threat based on process identification or on endpoint identification.

    What this means:
If you don't change the SecureAnywhere settings, it will never bother you to make decisions and you can continue using LNS like you like.
If you think that something is safe and allow it through LNS, but it's really a brand new threat with zero detections on VT, the moment SecureAnywhere determines it's bad, its network connections are sliced.
If an otherwise safe application is taken control of by an exploit that there is no definition for (Javascript exploit, for example) and contacts a known-bad server according to global-network-integrated data, the contact with that server can be severed and trigger deeper inspection and awareness of that process and its behaviors.

So, in summary, the WSAV firewall is fine. You can continue to use LNS with no conflict. It just adds protection that you hope you will never need but is nice to have, in a way that never bothers you about anything.

It is more advanced heuristics around USB devices specifically. For example, you can use IronKey without a problem as it is whitelisted, but you won't be infected from untrusted malware running from it.

I'm pretty sure I already know the answer, but does changing the heuristics settings to high cause WSA to use more resources, or slow the machine down in any way when compared to the low/medium settings?

Well, I already switch over to NoVirusThanks EXE Radar

But it still should had been optional to install it or not

I am going to reread what "Techfox1976" said and give it some more serious thought

It's not even a full-blown software firewall in the true sense. It's only an extension to complement the Windows firewall. In this case, there would be no need to offer an option to install it or not. It happily works with Windows Firewall or any 3rd party one.
