Assuming (as with any new AV) you've done a full system scan, thus assuring that your system is clean (and/or infected/suspicious files cured or quarantined) :
When "Process only new files" is selected, all files created / written to disc are scanned, BUT existing files can be opened and existing executables run (i.e.: program executables) without scanning.

Any file modification (as it is saved) will be written to disc and subsequently scanned.
It works in a similar manner to DrWeb's 'smart mode' (for those familiar with it).

    Understood :thumb:
IMO, security-savvy people who run real-time AVs should be using these settings in their AVs.

Not totally true. I realize I dont fall into that catagory, ;) but I have no prblems understanding the layout and meaning of their choices. And feel totally secure.

the beta is for Vista only. If you want to help, click on the support forum link in my sig and go to the beta forum and scroll down in this thread. You will see a post from Andrey with the zip file for the beta key.

    The beta is here.

If you use the beta, change your update path to:
    http://www.anti-virus.by/beta/update/

If you want to just trial the regular demo, you should mail them at info@anti-virus.by (subject should be Evaluation key for VBA32 Personal).

@ all who are still running XP:

You can use the windows vista beta version+ betakey.zip available on the the Vba32 forums. It works on both xp and vista.

I hope they do NOT do that. I detest the suite concept. Much prefer to pick & choose.

With all the *big guys* doing the suite thing (KAV, AVG, Avira, et al et al et al) an antivirus "specialist" would be a good niche for a smaller outfit such as VBA in my opinion. For a small team of programmers, isn't it better to concentrate on producing the best AV rather than a whole suite of fair-to-adequate modules?

Or else, VBA should consider cutting "licensing deals" -- such as DrWeb has done with Safe'n'Secure, & Kaspersky has done with OnlineArmor (OA). For example: given a choice between (a) OA with the latest FULL version of VBA and (b) OA with an OEM version of KAV, I would much prefer to buy (a).

I also hope that they don't produce a suite and just concentrate on developing the antivirus.

i think its inevitable that all will produce a suite at some stage.

by this i mean, av, firewall and antispam.

the av standalone will always be available too though. :)

    I doubt it.
(Unless we are talking a long long time.)
Their appeal (to me) is their spartan functionality / efficacy.
    Just as well.

VBA32's Windows XP Professional SP2 version runs well on my three systems. However, I installed and then uninstalled the Vista beta on a fourth computer because, well, I guess this old Alpha male is getting weary of trying so many Betas :D

Been trying this with trial key, and now have purchased.

Do I have to remove trial key from the installed folder, or will the new key overide? Seems to be no info on this.

    Thanks.
