USB Recovery media booted successfully but hangs after selecting any options

Using Paragon Backup & Recovery 2013 Free version.
Created Recovery media on USB key and booted my HP N073da laptop.
The initial BR page displayed almost immediately, but none of the options from the menu gets to the next BR page.
Normal Mode - Laptop boots into Windows
The other three modes - Progress bar goes two fifths of way then hangs.

Tried an Paragon Recovery Media CDdisk from about 3 years ago which work on at least two Lenovo laptops, the disk booted quickly but also hangs on all four options on my new HP laptop. This time showing dot dot dot instead of the progress bar.

The HP laptop does not have secure boot enabled, or any other options that look suspicious. Any help or hints is appreciated.

 

Likely BR13 Linux-CD has not included drivers for the new chipset (controller) and hangs when trying to recognize the disk.
