How do I make a backup to an external USB Western Digital My Book drive? I am using the most recent version of True Image, build 9709, WindowsXP 64 bit. When I attempt to do the backup I get an error message that indicates the drive is Write-protected. However, that is not the case. I also have Disk Director and am able to copy the partition that way. That is not the ultimate method for making a backup.

    photoparity,

This sounds like it might be a security issue with our Anti-virus.

Have you tried booting from the TI Rescue CD and creating a backup file from the Rescue CD? Don't forget to validate the backup and best done when booted from the TI CD.

    Hello photoparity,

Thank you for using Acronis True Image Home 2009

If the issue still persists do the following to solve the issue:

1.Run Registry Editor (Start -> Run -> type regedit).
2.Navigate to the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
    3.Go into StorageDevicePolicies.
    4. Double click the key WriteProtect in the right pane and set the value to 0 in the Value Data Box and press OK button.

    Best regards,

I cannot find these entries in the registry. I'm using Windows XP 64-bit with the most recent service pack and updates.

Sorry for the delay, but I was waiting until I was doing a backup again.

    Thanks,

    Jim

    Hello Jim,

Thank you for using Acronis True Image

Have you tried to create a backup file under Acronis Booting Rescue Media (please see the post placed by GroverH)? This will help to localize the issue.

    Thank you.
