Somehow I was afraid there'd be no 64bit version...

I use Windows Live Mail and this is a serious upgrade - a real step up. I will need to use it for a while before I can say more, but my first impression is really positive.

 I'm sure it's right in front of me. But I don't see where it says that.

Eh? If you're saying there is a 64bit client, please link me to it, because I don't see one anywhere.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the old issue used to be that the installer wouldn't work on x64 systems, but there never has been an x64 version per se. The installer will now install it on x64 of course, so there is no problem there. But the programs are actually 32 bit.

Do you mean a native 64 bit version, or 32 bit version that works on a 64 bit OS? The current version as well as this new beta works fine for me on Windows 7 x64.

Native... like Microsoft are doing with nearly all their new apps, excluding this one.

As long as it doesn't allow syncing with Windows Mobile smartphones I don't care

Stupid Microsoft forcing the use of Outlook... Stupid phone manufacturers ceasing to bundle Outlook with smartphones.

I'm not saying there is. I just thought you were were saying that it says there isn't, and I couldn't find where it says one way or the other.

Windows Live Essentials beta release notes. Perhaps the installer determines the OS and installs accordingly.
FYI. Windows Live Essentials Wave 4 Beta

I believe integration with Hotmail/Live Mail is coming in the new "Windows Phone 7" phones. It's been a long time coming :)

FWIW... Found the interest in Live uh, interesting. I have found Windows Live to be bloatware extraordinaire! I really looked at free alternatives that are available and there are many that don't need an SQL database, permanently running services (seaport.exe) and more. If you like Live, great. But IMO, there are many very nice alternatives...

Note that you can install just the specific apps you want instead of the whole suite to reduce the "bloat" if you choose the correct installer. I only use Mail, Photo Gallery and Sync.

    Re: Windows Live Essentials beta

I just discovered what I consider to be a serious limitation of the new Wave 4 Live Essentials, which is Office Web Apps (OWA) are separated from Skydrive Synced Storage. The new "Live Sync" application syncs two gigs of files to Skydrive, however these files can't be edited with the new Office Web Apps. Also documents created with OWA are not saved to Skydrive Synced Storage, but to a separate location. Good luck finding the correct location and versions of your files. This arrangement is seriously crippled IMHO.
