i only have one optical drive and that was- unchecked.

    however, nothing worked.

one clue- when i did a full format via nero.. (not a quick) i got this error message rom three of the five new DVD+RW. it said:

    Error writing disc.
Please confirm disc is compatible with the drive and is not scratched.

therefore i must conclude.. if 3 out of 5 have this message... i am now thinking it is a bad batch.

i would bring them back to the store but i do not think they will give me a refund cause i wrote on the back of two of the so-called good ones.

do you have any other ideas? opinions or thoughts?

    thanks again.

    Hi, cityman

    Sound like you right there.

Clean them with nail polish remover [acetone free] or aftershave, also
    try antiperspirent deodorant.

Did you make one full compression Image of C:\ and D:\ yet.

i was able to return the dvd+rw. there is a store called - Staples. they will take back anything within 2 weeks. so i got a new batch of dvd+rw-- the brand is TDK.
and sure enough, i was able to make the first of three dvd's. remember i have to max the acronis file at 2gb or less.

and sure enough, the second disc got screwed up and so did the third
so i reinstalled nero and that did not help and the 4th disc was ruined.

the error messages were: unable to recover TOC and could not perform Disc at Once.

so my thought that the original dvd+rw were bad-- was wrong. <sigh>

    Hi, cityman

Did you clean them before you took them back to Staples. [have one near me]

Are you sure the DVD Burner is working right.

Can you burn Anything with Nero to DVD+RW or DVD-RW. [big file]

If yes than, make one Image compressed of both Partitions.

Please try:- Nero Express>Data>Data Disc>Add>Browse To your Image>Add>Finished>next>Burn.

    Hello Cityman --

Please try to burn the files, by creating an image first to your HDD and then burning the files to your DVD using Nero, or you are already doing it this way? In this case - it's really weird.

    Thank you.

yes it is weird. i am of the opinion that my computer has a hardware problem; i will have to re- install my computer and if i still have a dvd problem, the oem will fix it for me free. <sigh> but first they want me to re-install and check it out

other than that everthing works- beautifully. i can burn cd but dvd's is not consistent. dvd + can be okay sometimes nd dvd- most like will not burn.

so here goes. i will let you know if a few days-- sorry for the delay- -but thanks for your help.

btw- i did burn to my hard drive and it worked with dvd - 2 days ago- meaning i was able to burn to the dvd but the next day with dvd -, i could not burn and also the dvd - could not burn.

now i cannot burn at all. so i must redo the installation- <sigh>

    again thanks

    Hi, citiman12000

I think some of that B's clip might be still hanging around and causing
    a conflict.

Or worse the DVD Burner is Bad. [Faulty]

Also make sure you have the latest update for Nero.

i checked my registry for B's clip. nothing there.

i am thinking it is either one or two things.

    1) it is a faulty dvd burner. i have permission from the manufacturer (still under warranty) to have it repaired. however, if the diagnostic test shows it is a software problem.. i gotta pay. it was advised that i do a clean install and then do some procedures. if this recommendation shows i am still unable to burn.. then i have nothing to worry about.

i am loathe to do it. everything else works in my computer. but i just may do it anyway- everything will be backed up to an external hard drive as an image.

    2) i do not know how to burn a dvd properly. hey anything is possible. so is there any tutorial out there? for nero and for b's clip? truthfully this is stupid. i can use Nero real well making CD's and all. the dvd's are the problem.

    Hi, cityman

Before you do the clean install, do you not have a friend with Nero, and put
you drive on their machine. [system]

It is not the size of the Image that your problem, as I made a 3.5gb to test Nero.

Nero burned it to disk. so that is the advice I gave here [you do get a warning from nero]:- #2

    Hi, cityman

Sorry forgot to answer this bit.
The only tutorial I know of is the User's Guide [pdf] that is a part of Nero.

But burning a DVD is the same as a CD.

And trying test burning of things on RW's as this saves costers. [none critical things]

As I did, when I made the test 3.5gb Rar [took 1hour 25mins to make the Rar] to
burn as you said it was advised it would not burn in Nero:- #18

yes you are quite correct. you are able to store larger than 2.0 gb.

i called the oem; after a series of questions and procedures (including the clean install,) they now believe it is a hardware problem (which i sort of suspected all along). now i will take it to their recommended repair dealer. then they will confirm via diagnostic testing that is indeed the problem- a malfunctioning internal dvd recorder.

so that seems to be that. i will post the results when i know.

    thanks
