Ahh, it's on the LiveCD..too bad it isn't on their DVD. But thank you for pointing that out, I might have better luck with them.

I didn't use Mint4Win. I went for the full, dual-boot install. It's been about a month now and I haven't needed to use "the other boot".

By the time the next Mint comes around, I hope to be "qualified" enough to do the single-boot install :) .

Plus, I've decided to stay with just the one distro because it works for me.

I've never done a manual dual-boot before, that's why I went for the "noob" route :)

Hey! I'm a total noob as well but I took a deep breath and jumped (with my eyes open = after backing up all essentials and knowing that Mint could read all my "other boot" spreadsheets, docs, music, etc.)

I have been rocking XUbuntu for a while. My main setup is normally Arch linux or Gentoo be warned though as both require setup from scratch. Arch Linux is easier because you just basically run the install script and "apt-get install" everything you want while gentoo you actually have to partition the hard drive and compile sources from scratch before even getting to add anything.

EDIT: Sorry not apt-get it's pacman on Arch :D

Is this issue (which is a serious one, IMHO) solved in the meantime?

Ubuntu for normal PC, for low powered ones, Lubuntu and as an alternate, I truly miss the amazingly fast rolling release from Germany aka sidux, sadly it died due to petty politics among the developers.

What I would like to know is whether Oracle java jre-7 and jre-6u27 works with firefox 6.0 (&6.01) on Kubuntu 64 bit 11.04.
As part of familiarising myself with Kubuntu (which I am running in Vbox), I have tried this to no avail. Please see https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=1930157&postcount=44 for further details. Thanks (in advance) :p

Ocky, are there some specific sites you have in mind re. JRE? If they don't need a sign-in, I'd like to look at them to see how this IcedTea plug-in works in place of JRE (for the browser).

BTW, www.java.com thinks that I have "Java version: Version 6 Update 22".

    vasa1,

java may be set to 6u22. Check this.. sudo update-alternatives --config java

    @ linuxforall,

Is that in Ubuntu 64 bit ? I was talking about Kubuntu 64bit 11.04 in Vbox .. and jre-6u27 or jre-7

One things for sure, don't bother with openjdk - it won't work with my main browser being Opera 11.51 (confirmed in their forums).

Ocky its Ubuntu 11.04 x64, don't think my little netbook can handle Kubuntu, my 8 core desktop runs Kubuntu but LTS flavor.

    vasa1,
That's because the latest version of openjdk is what you have viz. version ..22 check in Synaptic to confirm. It's probably been patched as I can't imagine that they simply left it.:)

(Sorry, thought at first you meant Oracle java)

Not to worry! I now very rarely need to access sites running Java.
