    Hi,
For those that might need it here's a link to an Ubuntu 12.04 nonpae iso (the Unity one)....

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1286502/ubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386-nonpae.iso

posted in this bug report at launchpad...

    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/ source/linux/ bug/930447

    at post #69.

Here are the checksums for the iso...

    MD5SUM 7435d1d1740dcf16fbbba2e746de4de1
    SHA1SUM 4fb527b2e2c6a00499677102df36ec466e79c373
    SHA256SUM a8e4427889fa6786e4cfe82ad578fcbf833fe66146a180f90abcc5caa6fe6dbb

I've tested it and it works just like a regular Ubuntu iso. I installed it on my old Sony S360 1.7ghz nonpae laptop, 1 gig of ram, with an Ati Radeon Mobility 9700 video card. Runs great.

Hey, I hope this helps someone. :).

Should have added...the iso is the Ubuntu 12.04 Final.

Luiz just replaced the default pae kernel with the nonpae one. A nonpae kernel was standard up until Precise but the powers that be within Ubuntu decided to change that (just like RedHat did for 6.0).

Yes, quite unfortunate. Ubuntu left a lot of older computers by the wayside. But such is progress, I assume.

BTW, Xubuntu and Lubuntu are both using the nonpae kernel in their install isos unlike Ubuntu, Kubuntu, etc..

At least this iso that I linked to will allow someone to install and run Ubuntu on their nonpae laptops thus staying current for the next 5 years. I believe the next Ubuntu (12.10) will not even make available a nonpae kernel.

I'm using my old Sony right now. It runs fine...eye-candy and all.

Sorry folks but Luiz's Dropbox account has been disabled due to too much traffic. In other words, it's no longer available. If another link pops up I'll post it here.

Yes, it's relevant but you'll need a wired internet connection for it to work. Besides, it will take quite a while to download all the necessary packages using that method.

BTW, if you'll go down to the very end of that article you'll see and Update linking to Luiz's post about that ubuntu 12.04 nonpae iso I mentioned in this thread. The "Bob" he credited is me. I emailed Andrew yesterday evening asking him to check it out and to possibly contact Luiz to set up a new download location for this iso. But, as you can see, all Andrew did was link to the post which itself links to the now disabled Dropbox account. Not very useful. I was hoping for more help.

    Good news.
David Henningsson, who works for Canonical, has created an Ubuntu 12.04 nonpae Final iso of his own...

    http://people.canonical.com/~diwic/12.04-nonpae/ubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386-nonpae.iso

    No checksums were provided.

The down side, it's 731 megabytes in size, so you'll need a DVD to burn it. Luiz's was 699 megabytes.

Even though he works for Canonical this iso is totally unofficial, but I'm sure it will work. He put out an Ubuntu 12.04 nonpae beta1 back in March of this year...

    http://people.canonical.com/~diwic/12.04-nonpae/

but don't use that one. It will take you forever to take all the updates that came afterwards.

If a new link for Luiz's iso pops up I'll post it here. It will fit on a CD.

    Hi,
Here are the checksums for David Henningsson's Ubuntu 12.04 nonpae Final iso...

    md5sum:
    e857a7ccde6d6a85b2080d285ee48023 ubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386-nonpae.iso
    sha256sum:
    047ca71b469a23dce844ba1571a6eae4c64e7e24527449f94d0fb6402676ced1 ubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386-nonpae.iso

He posted them in the launchpad bug report I referenced in my first post.

Also, I found out that Luiz's Dropbox account has a 10 gigabyte daily limit. If it is exceeded they suspend his account for one day. His limit was exceeded again today so on Saturday one could download his iso if you're one of the lucky first 14 individuals to try.

    Just trying to help.

    Have a good one.
