Can we say Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD... Betamax vs. VHS debacle all over again?

I don't Use HDMI, I use sonic wave component cables, carrys 1080 p+ (up to 1380p) and a coax for audio for my TV: audio receiver; and 2 DVD/CD/VCR. The receiver came out before HDMI did. I also can go optical for audio but I am limited because of the angle restrictions of optical cable. But if they are coming out with new Technology that is better .

I can get HDMI for a few cents to under 5 bucks a pop. I wonder how much this will go for? o_O

From my understanding it will use standard CAT5E or CAT6 cable. If they use RJ45 jacks it will be cheap and easy to make your own. If not I'm sure I could buy a new crimper for whatever jacks they come up with an make my own. The smart thing for them to do would be to use the RJ45 so they can use existing routers and switches. I have not been able to find any information on the plugs yet though. o_O
