Kinda scary watching the news about a power plant exploding. I hope that its contained. A nuclear meltdown is not a good thing.

My home island (Oahu) was hardly affected. Maui & the Big Island (Hawaii isle) took a bit heavier hits.

According to Coast & Geodetic Survey's maps, the inundation zone ends a block away from my house. Even so, my wife & I visited our elder daughter (higher ground) until the all-clear.

Thanks to all for thinking about grouchy old Bell.

Just saw this post today. Boat harbors and resorts near the ocean (especially, the big island of Hawaii) were damaged. As bellgamin said, Oahu was mostly missed. We have an inundation zone on a map in our phonebooks that show the areas most likely affected by tsunamis. Thankfully, I do not live in that zone.

My heart and prayers go out to the victims of Japan's 9.0 earthquake and powerful tsunami. Thousands have been killed, survivors in the Northern part are cold, grieving, and in some cases, starving. Many here and on the mainland are contributing to agencies like the American Red Cross designating Japan on the memorandum line of the check. They need our help.

For those looking to help, as they can, the victims of disaster, a list of organizations who are providing assistance directly to the people affected could be most beneficial. This will help you also by increasing the effectiveness of your money and limit becoming a scamming victim yourself.

Never answer an e-mail asking for support, the Red Cross does not do mass e-mails seeking donations.
