I purchased Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 with Universal Restore for the specific purpose of doing a bare metal restore to a new machine, but not having success. I will be using XP on both machines. Here's what I've done so far:
Created a bootable media CD which included the drivers for the new machine.
Did a full backup to a new hard drive.
Installed the new hard drive in the new machine.
Started the new machine with the bootable media CD.
When the Acronis Rescue Media screen appeared, I selected "Acronis Bootable Agent". The description for this option is "The media will be created with the restore to dissimilar hardware functionality". The only other option is "Windows" which didn't do anything.
After selecting that option, the Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 screen appears and then it goes black. Nothing after that. I'm must be missing something very basic.
